Hand Flying The Hindu Kush

Featured Replies

"The Hindu Kush is an 800-kilometre-long mountain range in Central and South Asia to the west of the Himalayas that stretches from central Afghanistan into far northern Pakistan and far southern Tajikistan."

Prompted by DK's adventure in Pakistan I set out from Chitral, (OPCH) to follow my nose through some mountainous country.

Most of the short flight was below 8,500'.

Leaving Chitral & following the left fork of a river.

Realized I should have gone for the right fork. Circling to get over the ridge to the other fork.

Heading up the right fork. Small settlements & single houses dot the valley floor.

Solid looking mountain up ahead & in the distance on the right, an even higher mountain.

Looking back, with the fertile river valley that supports any habitation, below.

Nice shots 😀

I think that the Chitral region is the Kafiristan of Kipling's The Man Who Would Be King. If you fly the "right fork" it seems you can go quite far without the need of oxygen according to a quick survey I just did with Google Earth.

Thanks DK

I realized that when I took a closer look at the PC-6's GPS map.

I hope you can see the shots ok as that b-dy pop up advt at the bottom of the screen is a real P.I.T.A!

Use an ad blocker and you will not see it anymore.

Will look at that as the ads link off Google chrome & when you try & close the ad, Google wants to know why, then condescendingly comments that they may or may not show the advt again, before flashing a different one up!.

Very intrusive

Thank you.

My go to screen shot weather setting was used: SoFly UK Spring Day - it will usually give a mix of sun, cloud, mist, a bit of drizzle & shadowing.

Great shots...no ads for me!
