Computer Crash

Featured Replies

6 times today my PC has crashed about 2 mins into an msfs session. Not a CTD, but a complete shutdown.  All other programs seem to run fine.

Community folder emptied and no other mods installed all background programs stopped.  Have been monitoring CPU and GPU temps throughout and no issues there.  I've tried starting at different airports, but the same thing happens.

Symptoms seem to suggest a CPU or GPU overheat, but as I say, temps are fine.  Not sure what to look for next as it was running fine up until today and I've made no changes to the system at all.

Just what I didn't need just before a major MSFS update.

Any ideas or anyone else got a similar issue?

Thanks

hwmonitor 64 to monitor temps. However Overheating GPU would give off graphical anomalies rather than causing a shutdown. CPU and Memory issues would typically  result in Windows errors first first before a complete shutdown.

System shutting off completely though indicates a power supply problem .

Could be power supply. See you're running a Ryzen system (like I am) and there was a Windows Update inbound for this architecture. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the chipset drivers along with Ryzen master.

I suspect it is either an hardware or hardware related issue. It is rare for an application to fail worse than with a CTD.
A faulty driver might cause this, or failing or wrongly configured hardware.

Can you find anything in the event log related to it?
If Windows cannot log the issue before it shuts down it might be a PSU issue. Otherwise the log might point to the cause.

Hmm, my 600 watt PSU is a bit marginal for my system and I've had it a few years.  I recently installed the latest W10 update, but I'm sure I've run MSFS OK since then.

I might try uninstalling the W10 update before I shell out for a new PSU.

Thanks for your suggestions though as I do now have a few options to consider.  If anyone else wants to chip in, I would be happy to hear from you.

Thanks for your help so far.

600 watt PSU doesn't sound like the best for your system.

You could be right Bob, it's marginal I know, but it's been fine for 10 months. Just installed SU6, shut down, restarted and first flight went OK, so will have to see how it goes when I have a bit more time tomorrow.

Update.  Borrowed a 450 watt PSU as a temperary fix, which ran msfs at low settings only, but was OK to continue mining.  New 750 watt Corsair PSU now fitted and everything up and running fine with msfs back on ultra settings.

As a matter of interest, the borrowed 450 watt PSU was previously running msfs fine on another PC with an RTX 3060ti card - now that must have been really marginal.
