I've had Game Mode ON, but never tried w/o it. I use only the in-game Vsync set at 30, or 1/2 of my display's maximum 60hz refresh rate. Back in P3D days I tried all sorts of different configurations using RTSS scanline x/2, NCP, etc and ended up for years using 30Hz refresh so I could Vsync and end up with 30fps rock solid and buttery smooth. Fortunately my old brain copes well with 30Hz refresh, which I consider this a real blessing especially since my display could in fact do 30Hz. Hard to find these days, and of course P3D (at least thru v4.5) did not offer the refresh divisor present in MSFS. It was so nice to stop obsessing on frame rate and enjoy buttery smooth, stutter-free video always in P3D v4.5. I think I was late to the party because clearly many knew about Vsync to 30, and even to 30Hz, even people with the highest end hardware possible. I've since become aware and can see the difference between 30fps and 60fps but only by looking for it in certain scenarios. Compared to buttery smooth, stutter-free anywhere in any plane at maximum image quality that Vsync to 30 affords, it pales in comparison in terms of value for me. Oh, when it's fully possible, yes we'll go there happily. I do run the display at 60hz now since I learned how the divisors work in-sim. This whole thread has been a revelation for me! I've been put straight what V-SYNC 30 actually means in MSFS settings. I have my monitor at 100Hz with G-SYNC enabled. MSFS is set to V-SYNC/20 (33.3 fps). I have now set Low Latency to Ultra. All this means everything is on ultra except lens flare & motion blur which are off. The only thing that needed to be tuned was Terrain LOD over Los Angeles which I had at 400, but reduced to 300 (only flying GA). Very smooth with textures and shadows out to the distance looking the best I have seen (render scaling at 100). I am interested in the forthcoming BAe 146 so may need to reduce Terrain Lod for that. I had always compromised on settings and always swore at the screen when I kept reading what performance others were getting out of systems similar to mine. I feel rather stupid that I thought I was locked at 30 fps, even though the developer mode was showing me 48 - I really thought 48fps was what I COULD GET if I wasn't locked to 30! A few flights now where I have looked around and just don't have anything to gripe about - MSFS really is as stunning looking, with butter smooth performance, as some of you have been saying for ages. 😲👍👏 Edited November 6, 20214 yr by MrBitstFlyer CPU Ryzen 7800X 3D RAM 32GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz GPU GEFORCE RTX 4090 Monitor AOC AGON AG352UCG UltraWide G-Sync @ 3440x1440 Internal Storage 1TB NVMe PCIe SSD External Storage Three 4Tb HDs
November 6, 20214 yr Good for you MrBitst you definitely have the hardware run it in all its glory! You have come to the same place I recently did: Terrain LOD relates significantly to CPU load. It was arriving into KSFO in weather in the 787-10 HD mod that I learned that is the only variable I need to play with to completely avoid those nasty deteriorations in performance that happened on occasion coming into more complex airports in the 787-10 HD, manifested as unable to maintain the critical 30 FPS without which in Vsync stutter will ensue. I can run Terrain LOD at 400 as well, under certain scenarios, but not in that plane at complex terminals. It took going from 300 to 220 at KSFO when frames and smooth video returned all the way to the gate. Since then it's now ultra rare to have any kind of hiccough at all no matter where the landing, in the 787-10 HD. In less planes I can def go over 220 all the way to 400. But then again I find weather including aerosols kind of negate high LOD settings anyway so 220 is decent. I have all other settings at Ultra including Texture Super Sampling at 8x, Object LOD at 200, and what really matters now is Terrain LOD. I'm hoping Asobo develops a dynamic change in LOD as one gets close to and on to the ground since there is little need at 0 feet AGL to see far into the distance--for line-of-sight into mountains the algorithm would not reduce LOD there, but otherwise I think most often LOD set at say 300 could be dynamically reduced to 200 when there is really nothing to see at >200 due to being on the ground, and therefore save the CPU for other tasks beyond LOD. Well turning LLM on and setting to Ultra definitely helped to smooth things out a little. I have to say I am really liking the way the sim is running now. I have done a few flights in the A32NX and the FPS are a solid 30. I even turned real time traffic and road vehicles back on. I also nudged the glass cockpit refresh rate up to high as it was a little laggy on medium and it did not make a difference.
