It's vsync--what is there to fix?

The fact that turning the ingame vsync on cuts your fps to half the refresh rate of your monitor instead of syncing it to it.

So: Monitor @60Hz +ingame vsync on = 30FPS instead of 60FPS

or Monitor @30Hz +ingame vsync on =15FPS instead of 30FPS.

The caption is wrong if your monitor is not 60 Hz.

If your monitor is 120 Hz, then "60 fps" limits the framerate to 120 and 30 fps to 60.

If your monitor is 144 Hz, like in my case, 60 fps = 144 fps and 30 fps = 72 fps.

I never realized that!  So 30 actually=Half Refresh not 30=30 if I read that correctly?

Yes, that seems to be the way it functions.

30 just chops in half whatever refresh rate your monitor is at.  It is like they assume everyone is at 60Hz on their monitors.  Most are I suppose.  Mine is.

Affirmative! Thats my observation so far.

I actually wonder if there is a benefit or any noticable difference between Monitor @30Hz and Vsync (Assuming its working as it should) or/and Monitor @60Hz and Vsync half refreshrate.

Both should end up giving 30FPS but i'd like to know if theres a difference performance/temperature or otherwise,

The first solution is better, I tried it. It looks smoother than 30 fps on a monitor running at different refresh rate. On certain monitors for which the 30 Hz setting is not readily available, it can be forced with a proper monitor driver and Custom Resolution Utility (CRU).

But at the end of the day 30 fps are 30 fps... I mean, 30 fps at 30 Hz refresh rate look kind of smooth-ish but cannot compete with 48 fps even at 144 Hz refresh rate, let alone 60 fps/60 Hz.

I am convinced that some work can be done to make MSFS as smooth as a conventional videogame (60+ fps in any condition) with current hardware: on the CPU side with a good implementation of DX12 which could offload the infamous "main thread", on the GPU side with technologies like DLSS / FidelityFX.

The only question is: are Asobo / MS willing to invest resources in that?

My strong opinion is that a 2020 videogame cannot stick to DX11 or DX12 "wrapper status just-to-make-it-run-on-XBox" (I already heard Seb saying not to expect a big difference with DX12 and this is a disappointment). Even more so if it's depicted as a 10-year project.

We already have a gem, don't take me wrong, but I really look forward to seeing it growing up and developing to something that can actually take us to 2030 still with full satisfaction.

Thats what i expected. The problem i have is, i cant set my monitor to 30Hz anymore. For whatever reason i cant select that option in the Nvidia CP. Not sure if its driver related. I used to have that option in the past.

No difference for me.  I used 30Hz at vsync 60 for over a year, and now 60hz at vsync 30, and I see no difference in terms of how MSFS video executes.  Some people are sensitive to 30Hz but on my display it really is fine, but there is no downside for 60Hz either, so that's where it is.  I was delighted to learn MSFS ability to vsync to half refresh because this option is far better for me than limiting frames in NCP, or using RTSS.

I have same experience, in game Vsync is superior when it comes to smoothness, I run my monitor at 75hz and set Vsync to 30 = 37,5 fps.

That's great to have 75Hz as an option.  I'm stuck w/ either 60Hz, 50Hz or 30Hz with my 6y/o display, hence we be happy w/ 30Hz.  I must say I feel I have MSFS understood now in terms of never having stutters, even upon final approach and landing at the most complex airports, in the 787 HD mod, which is the most taxing on the main thread than other default planes.

You can try to create your own resolution within Nvidia panel, my monitor has native 30-60-100 hz, but also work with 75hz.

I don't know--my display shows only 60hz tops, whereas for yours, the range goes up to 100Hz...

Yep, mine is 60Hz tops also. 😕

I'm a bit confused with this talk of setting 30fps in MSFS just means half refresh rate.

I have a 100HZ monitor with G-SYNC.  In the NVCP I have G-SYNC on with max frame rate set at 97fps.  In MSFS I have VSYNC on at 30 - in developer mode I see 48FPS. I thought this meant MSFS was capable of running at 48FPS but was actually running at 30fps - does this mean I am actually achieving 48fps in the sim?  What if I set 60fps with V-SYNC on in MSFS - what fps is this?

If V-SYNC is off in MSFS but on in NVCP together with G-SYNC with fps set at 97, I see 50-60fps in developer mode - is this an actual 50-60fps I am seeing in sim?
