November 6, 20214 yr After a relaxing if chilly week of camping and fishing in the Laguna Redonda area of very-Southern Chile, a couple of paying passengers showed up courtesy of NeoFly so it was time to make way again for parts further South in the Milvis Turbo Porter. So off we go for what should have been a fairly straightforward flight with a simple flight plan meandering between the taller peaks at a modest 8,500ft altitude... Live weather was cooperating nicely at least in the departure area, with a nice view of some pretty huge glaciers along the way... There's so much going on at a large scale in this part of the world, you just can't capture it all in one screenshot! Halfway through the flight, temptation got the better of me. During the last few flights I've been eyeballing the amazing complex of islands and seaborne mountains along the coast of southern Chile and telling myself I'd take an opportunity to go view them. But despite their fascinating geographical patterns as you can see on the topo map, they're so desolate that there are no airports or real reason to fly over that area. So when I saw this canyon running to the West, I decided this was the last opportunity to make my way over to that area and have a look. It wasn't the wisest decision to depart from my flight plan over this kind of terrain and with weather clearly starting to worsen, but what could go wrong? Ice could go wrong, that's what. No worries, let's flip on the de-icing equipment there under the second display...let's hope it works because that white stuff ahead isn't the top of a cloud layer, it's very unforgiving frozen high terrain that we're struggling to clear! Well, this isn't getting any better - time to turn tail for warmer air! If we can... just... get to that nice warm sunlit spot in the valley ahead... We're through! Let's get back on the planned flight path - and stick to it this time! Doesn't look like I can stay ahead of the weather so we're scud-running for a while... And during the worst of it, a narrow miss with a dangerous scenery spike! SCNT, Puerto Natales is down this valley to the left, so we're almost home free at this point... I was so taken by the transition to a nice flat valley that I almost overflew the destination airport... But that just makes for a great excuse to use the Porter's Beta mode during descent... doesn't look like it but I was able to make a nice short landing here and turn off on the lone taxiway...
