MSFS refuses to load without a Windows restart

Featured Replies

I have always started MSFS via MSFS AddOns Linker. Since the latest "improvement" MSFS sometimes loads and sometimes does not even appear in "Task Manager" as attempting to load. The only way to resolve the issue is to restart Windows. Is anybody else experiencing this?

I had this a couple of times in the past. It seemed to be a mod in community folder. However I could usually close MSFS from task manager

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz (8 cores) Hyper on, Evga RTX 3060 12 Gig, 32 GB ram, Windows 11, P3D v6, and MSFS 2020 and a couple of SSD's

After playing almost daily since launch, all of a sudden MSFS stopped loading from my desktop icon. The Microsoft Store Gaming Console would come up and the game would never launch. Now the only way to launch is from Xbox, and it takes 30 seconds to respond. Why??????????????????????????????????????????

I wish I had never purchased it from MS Store, it's been nothing but a nightmare. Too bad I can't transfer my purchase to Steam.

There are (at least) 3 levels of restarting-baselines in your PC:

1. restart from desktop, using your MSFS icon.

2. restart by  windows shutdown procedure (restart). This keeps the 5v supply voltage engaged for some memory components.

3. shutdown windows until computer is apparently OFF. But then, turn the power off by the power supply switch on the computer, or cycle the power to the unit. This really turns the computer OFF, mechanically.

This evening I had to use the #3 solution for a very peculiar problem wherein my weather LIVE would not update the barometer (I use the B key) under any circumstance. The metar data wasn't being updated, except for the haze effect  (which I'm not sure is embedded in METAR). I was about to do a complete rebuild of the MSFT download but I tried the above complete #3 shutdown and rebooted the computer. Then everything worked correctly thereafter.

I'm not a windows expert, but maybe others can benefit by my experience here.

Be aware that by default the Win10 "Restart" option  does a full shutdown and restart but the Win10 "Shutdown" option actually does a partial hibernate and does not fully shutdown.

It is somewhat counterintuitive
