Submarine questions.

Featured Replies

Do any of you sail the submarines in P3D?  If so how?  What do you do?  Is there a control panel?  Is there a periscope so you can see outside?  Do you navigate by geographical coordinates (LAT-LON)?  Why did LM put them in a flight simulator?

Noel

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

The only thing I know about submarines is watching the races on Saturday nights with either Sandi Lee, Patti Ann, or Donna Jean......

Noel, L-M's P3D was not developed to be strictly a "flight simulator." It was purposely designed to be an all-purpose military simulator encompassing; tanks, boats, submarines, aircraft, et cetera. With the tools provided, the military can script their own scenarios using any mobile assets they wish!

If submarines interest you there are some fascinating WW2 books that I've enjoyed:

Wahoo & Clear the Bridge, both by Richard O'Kane

Iron Coffins by Herbert Werner

U-Boat War by Bucheim is also fascinating, with amazing pictures - inspiration for Das Boot I believe.

I'm not all that interested in submarines.  I just wondered if anyone has 'flown' them in the simulator?

Noel, I tried out the submarine briefly when it first appeared in P3D and frankly just couldn't get enthused about it.

Well, I don't know how to make it work.  Where are the controls?  I was expecting something like the cockpit or the controls around a periscope.  How do you make it go?  All I get is an outside view of it floating on the water.
