Please tell me?

Featured Replies

Can some one please tell me that they can get any TACAN beacons to work in MSFS?

I have the Mb 339 and it wont tune TACAN. Nothing works?

I dont believe any TACAN channels are active in MSFS?

Please tell me if I am wrong?

They are pushing the Starfighter now, but it uses TACAN and I dont think we can use TACAN to navigate?

This makes MSFS Military sims redundant insofar as TACAN nav is concerned.

Thanks for any help.

Regards

TACAN is the same as VOR or Localizer frequency. You need to use conversion chart

Thanks for this!

My trouble ( and it seems Im the only one having a problem) is in the 339 if I tune, for example, RAF Valley (EGOV) on 21X (108.4 VOR Freq), using the TACAN selector, at 21X, the TACAN does not tune whatsoever? Its dead.

VOR at Valley doesnt tune either. i.e 108.4

Ive tried similar TACANs and they dont work.

Tuning the TACAN frequency in the aircraft, for the corresponding VOR, using the tables doesnt work either.

The only TACANs that work are the VORTAC found in the USA?

Also there are gaps. Lossimouth (a military base) for example. TACAN 50X (or 111.30) is not listed.

Im thinking this may be a fault in Dino's 339 aircraft.

Id like to buy the SSW 104 Starfighter, but it uses the same TACAN navigation sets, so I would only be able to navigate in the USA?

Thanks again for the tables.

Ive no issues, in the sim, with VOR navigation. Its only the TACAN freqs, which obviously military jets use, that dont work for me.

Ive only seen one You Tube video on the 104 and he uses a VORTAC in the USA.....which appears to work?

Regards.

edit. bottom line is, I dont think ASOBO have simulated the TACAN in the sim. If they did, I could fly from Valley to Lossimouth and use TACAN? I can not do this currently in the 339. I just wanted one person to verify my claim. Then ASOBO may do something about it?

bottom line

I'm using Navigraph nav database not default one. So I believe if VOR you are looking for not in default nav database you won't be able to receive any signal.

P.S. I own SSW 104 and it comes with own table (I assume same as the one I posted) in support app

I may give it a whirl with the JF Hawk at EGOV ... watch this space. I only have default Navigraoph data, BTW.

Confirmed all working fine - with the Hawk at least!

One question though - are you using the default EGOV, or an add-on (I think there's a freeware version out there)? I'm only using default.

Thanks!

Aha! Im using the Superspud add on EGOV from Flightsim.to.

Could be that the TACAN is broken?

I'm more inclined to think that the native ASobo TACANs are broken.

I have only got the Mb 339 to test. All the TACAN's dont work? But the VORTAC at BLD (Boulder City) on 114X does work?

I can only assume that there are missing TACAN activation codes in the Asobo flight sim.

Using the conversion tables from VOR to TACAN dont work either.

Bit of a bummer!

I was going to buy the Hawk but no point if I cant use any TACAN's?

The Hawk T1 looks wrong anyway. There should be a Moving Map display and a HSI MFD, but they show the early steam cockpit version. At least thats what I know about the RAF Hawk T1?

Thanks for the reply!

Regards.

I'm not sure how TACAN implemented in MSFS or implemented at all. After all It's not a military sim. All I can say that in F-104 TACAN works for me as expected.

Try again without the Superspud add-on (I use Linker to help with add-ons management).

I don't have the MB339, but the TACANs certainly work in the JF Hawk.

There's no HUD (no idea whether there's one in RL) but you can bring up an MFD/GTN unit - with all the usual options.

Just as an FYI TACAN support was put in the last sim update.  Asobo data now supports TACAN.  If you’re using Navigraph make sure you’ve updated your data recently as they also had an update adding the TACAN support to their data as well.

I know this because I tried using TACAN in the F-18 and I couldn’t get it to work until I updated my Navigraph data.  Hope this helps with your issue.

Thanks.

It must be a fault with the Mb339. I still cant use TACAN stations in the 339.

I dont use Navigraph, just what comes with MSFS.

I have seen that the Asobo F-18 can use TACAN...havent tried it!

Cheers.

Addendum.

I just tried the Asobo F-18 and could receive TACAN. So TACAN does work in the sim.

The Mb339 needs to be updated, it appears TACAN is not working with the update 7 MSFS.

But, there isnt much else working in the Asobo F-18! So many "not implemented" warnings!

Still, early days yet?

Thanks chaps!
