Starting APU just before pushback

Featured Replies

Hi.  I tried searching for this but didn't find anything similar, so sorry if I missed it.  I'd been trying to delay starting the APU until I needed it.  I was running on External Power up until then.  Then, I pressed the APU power and the FO seemed to turn the External Power off at that point (which made everything go blank until the APU had started).  Is there a way to fit starting-the-APU-10minutes-before-pushback into the flows successfully?

Thanks very much.

Hi Tony,

You had back luck on timing.  The FO should only turn off External Power if the APU Master is On.. but you could have the APU master on and still not have the APU on the buses.

Start the APU a few minutes earlier and put it on the busses.

Cheers,

Thanks Bryan.  I think its fine if I start the APU before the Before Start Checklist, which probably makes sense.  (i.e. if I want to delay starting the APU until needed, it still makes sense to have it up and running before running that checklist).

Thanks.
