Would the i5 12600K be the cpu for MSFS?

Great to hear! I’m building a system in the next week or two with a 12700K, 3070. Ordered the Asus ROG Strix motherboard yesterday. Coming from a 6700K/1070Ti and really looking forward to seeing MSFS on the new system.

MSFS is my backup sim.  But I did a few quick test flights and was very happy with things.  Without question smoother.  I also have that same motherboard (DDR4 edition)

I've been beyond thrilled with my move to the 12700k.  MSFS and P3D.  Previously had a 9700k

Really? Its that big of a difference? You and I had basically the same system before your upgrade. (9700k/3090). Any overclocks on the new chip? How is the cooling holding up after a 2hr flight?

In p3d there is an overall smoother feeling.  It seems the 12700k keeps up with the 3090 better than the 9700k did.  No O/C yet on the new chip.  Still feeling it out.  Cooling is holding up very well.  The 12700k is obviously a cooler chip than say the 12900k.  But the msi cooler doesn't break a sweat.  The 3090 on the other hand!  I've considered getting an AIO kit for it.

MSFS saw an even bigger gain fyi.  But I don't use that sim too often these days.

Well that's good to hear. As far as the 3090 drop the power level down to 90% and it will be much cooler. I did this with mine just because I didn't want to work mine to hard, not like I can get another one. Was pure luck to have been one of the first to get one to begin with. The added benefit of this was reduced temp and therefore less fan noise. Something to consider if its too loud.

Hey Ken.  Thanks!  I'm a novice with tweaking the GPU.  I assume you mean in EVGA Precision X1?  If so what exactly do you do if you don't mind?

thanks. dave

Hi Dave, Just going from what little memory I have left I think I used EVGA Precision and there is a setting for power level, I just dropped it down to 90%. Which I did notice a reduction in fan speed and temp during flights. This is also tied in with temperature so if your card gets too hot it will lower this setting automatically IF it gets hot enough to do so. I can take a look and get back to you if you don't see these settings on your side.

Well curious how it performs, waiting for my Alderlake i7-12700K to arrive today with a MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 which has pretty VRM onboard with one of the lowest temps... going to pair it with my RTX 3080...

Upgrading from a z390 and i9-9900K system...

Update running I7-12700K at P50 / E40 / R37 at 1.225V and cinebench R23 temps around 69/71C 🙂 so 20 threads and blazing fast ...

Going to test now MSFS and P3D load temps... suspect around 50C...
