Disable Surface Winds...

Featured Replies

Hi, I would like to fly with Real Time Weather BUT being able to disable surface winds. It looks as if I can't do that with standard options in MS FS2020 once real weather mode i sticked.

Does anybody know if there is any add-on (payware or freeware) that can do that ?

Any other suggestion very much appreciated

Hi;

There is Unreal Weather Mod which we were using before SU7 as a METAR based weather addon. It is a free addon but it is not working after SU7 and we are waiting for a fix. In that addon, you can bring the real weather and still adjust the details you want, such as surface winds. etc.

Keep an eye on this for the update. https://unrealweather.blogspot.com/2020/09/unreal-weather-live-metar-released.html

Hope this helps.

Not sure what you want to achieve by disabling surface winds, but if you want to get rid of the overdone windvaning effect turn on Auto-Rudder in Assistance Options / Piloting. It disables all wind effects on the ground.

Easiest way would be to get the weather report then set everything except the winds manually.

Hi;

I am not a pro on METARs but basicaly;search Google for a METAR report of and airport. You need to know the basics of a METAR report to understand (I assume you do not know anything) You can learn the details also from internet.

For the below example; temperature pressure, etc can be set in the MSFS weather UI, as they are clear when reading the  text section :

METAR text: EGKK 181720Z 06007KT 4200 BR BKN003 08/07 Q1038
Conditions at: EGKK (LONDON/GATWICK A, GB) observed 1720 UTC 18 December 2021
Temperature: 8.0°C (46°F)
Dewpoint: 7.0°C (45°F) [RH = 93%]
Pressure (altimeter): 30.65 inches Hg (1038.0 mb)
Winds: from the ENE (60 degrees) at 8 MPH (7 knots; 3.6 m/s)
Visibility: 2.61 miles (4.20 km)
Ceiling: 300 feet AGL
Clouds: broken clouds at 300 feet AGL
Weather: BR  (mist)
