December 20, 20214 yr So I have MSFS installed on a PC, and am trying to install it on a different PC. To speed it up, I copied most of the folders in the Packages/Official/Steam directory (about 100GB). I then fired up MSFS installer, pointed it to the correct directory, and it began downloading…but saying it had 110GB left to download 😑 I expected it to only have a few GB to download as I had already copied the bulk of the data over! Anyone know how to get MSFS installer to recognize data already copied to the Packages folder?? Edited December 20, 20214 yr by dresoccer4

But you know what I think happened, I haven't updated the other version of MSFS on the other PC in a while so I think copying the files did work but it just needed a really big update so it looked like it didn't work. But we won't ever really know

Never needed to re-download. It moves the selected game to the new location, scans it and downloads any updates (if any) and thats it.

I don't think this works with MSFS as the vast majority of MSFS's files aren't a part of the Steam download, but rather reside in the C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator directory and the steam move feature doesn't move those files. Oh I see ok, hopefully Steam will be updated to recognize this.

As mentioned, the bulk of the MSFS files are downloaded from within the flight simulator application itself. They are not provided by Steam. The Steam "Move install folder" only moves the files that Steam provides, which is what is located in Steam Client folder, under steamapps/common/MicrosoftFlightSimulator. ...jim Edited December 20, 20214 yr by JimBrown ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
