December 21, 20214 yr When I go to boot up the past 3 days this image comes up and I can't go any further. What do I need to do?? Thanks! Bruce https://imgur.com/a/eaOY6EH
December 21, 20214 yr Looks like a scrambled BIOS. Do you really have 2 keyboards and 2 mice connected? I would try redownloading the BIOS from your motherboard manufacturer and reflashing. December 21, 20214 yr Author No, only one mouse and 1 keyboard. I'll look into that. Thanks for the reply! Bruce
December 21, 20214 yr Did you build this yourself or was it built by a company? You may want to check your memory to (1) make sure it is well seated in the slot (take out and re-insert) and/or (2) make sure the memory is supported on this particular motherboard. Your mb manufacturer probably has a 'qualified memory list'. Check to make sure your memory is on that list. I once had a client whose BIOS was acting flaky and it turned out to be a defective memory stick. Rare, but it does happen. One final comment -- you do see where the BIOS is reporting 2 keyboards and 2 mice (It is the line starting with "USB Devices total". Also, are the drives attached to the ATA/SATA ports correctly identified (line below the USB Devices)? If not, and you have flashed the BIOS, I would think there is a mb fault someplace. Regards, P. December 22, 20214 yr Author Well, I have used two different keyboards and two different mice. I bought this PC from Micro Center in Denver in Aug of 2017. It has worked perfectly ever since. I haven't done anything to upset the BIOS! I am not a real techie, so I'll have to take it to a computer repair shop, I guess. Thanks again! Bruce
December 22, 20214 yr Were you able to get into the BIOS by hitting F1? If so, are you able to find a setting to reset the BIOS to optimised defaults? If not, consider trying that and rebooting before taking the computer to a repair shop. 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

Bruce https://imgur.com/a/eaOY6EH Common with motherboards that are a few years old. CMOS batteries don't last forever. I've had this a number of times. More than one cause possible, but commonly you just need to replace the CMOS battery on the motherboard. You may notice Windoes clock doing weird things. Had to replace mine a couple of months ago.
December 22, 20214 yr Author Thanks, Gents! Yes, F1 got me into the bios, and I didn't see an option to reset the bios. I'm thinking it is the CMOS battery also. Taking it to the shop tomorrow. Windows clock is still fine, Martin. Bruce

I recall that last time it happened to me, a couple of months ago, the clock being naughty was later on, initially it was the same as you, booting to the BIOS. CMOS batteries only last 5 years usually. There are other causes, but the battery is at the top of the list. Ive had to replace about three in the past. In fact my son is having the same issue now, unfortunately I'm not in the UK now, so can't replace it for him.
December 24, 20214 yr Author Yup, it was the CMOS battery! PC runs fine, but my F drive went missing. Will take a look inside to see if I can see any drive that is unplugged.

Good news. I'm glad your PC is okay now, ready for some Christmas gaming/simming. Actually, the last time I replaced mine I posted on the forum reminding people of CMOS battery limited lifespan. December 25, 20214 yr Author Good info, Martin! The tech that did mine said to change the battery every 3 years and that is what I will do from now on.

Yep, the annoying thing is that there are untold numbers of PC owners out there with pre-built PC's, without a clue what goes on inside the box, that will be past the warranty period and they will have this issue.
