December 24, 20214 yr Hi folks. I thought I'd get two questions in for the price of one. 1. I have the Steam edition of MSFS. I am supposedly running the Beta version of the software (set up in the Steam app). The last few days I have been getting messages, when I start up the sim, about not being able to sync with the cloud. So this morning I went into Steam and ran a file integrity check. It came back telling me I had to reload 415 files, which it is not doing (ugh). Why would that be? Does the file integrity check not know I am on the Beta? I am afraid it is putting me back to the public standard version, even though my Steam setting say I am set up to install and run the Beta. Has a new set of Beta code been put out there? I certainly don't see any mention of it. 2. On a completely different note, I have a Bravo quadrant. I am trying to play around to learn about the autopilot. The first thing I did was load up a C172 Skyhawk (G1000). Then I set the left rotary dial to ALT and turned the INC/DEC knob to see it adjusted on the meter above the altimeter scale on the G1000 PFD. But the number is not adjusting. I don't want to go any further without understanding why the first thing I tried doesn't seem to work as I saw it on RMAG's video (although he wasn't in a C172). Can someone help me out here. I admit I'm a real newbie trying to learn things correctly. December 24, 20214 yr Can't comment on #2. Regarding #1, do not, under any circumstances, do a file integrity check on the Steam edition. While it will successfully verify the integrity of the files that are actually downloaded from Steam, it will without warning delete all the files from the "Official/Steam" folder. IE; all the files that the sim downloads when one starts the sim for the first time, which are downloaded from the MS servers. If one does happen to do a file integrity check, the next time you start the sim it is as if you just downloaded it from Steam. It will proceed to then download all the files it needs from the MS servers on the "Checking for Updates" screen. If you did not let it install to the default location the first time, make sure you "Browse" to the same location as previous, prior to continuing. Just for gits and shiggles, earlier today I did a file integrity check and verified the above. However, I have a full disk backup that is done every night, so I simply copied the contents of the "Official\Steam" folder back to its original location. All good once done. As for the not being able to sync with the cloud, that is a MS issue, not Steam, as far as I am aware. Some people have said that logging out of the sim and logging back in may fix it. ...jim Edited December 24, 20214 yr by JimBrown ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.

The message about not being able to sync your settings in the cloud depends on Steam connectivity, not MSFS. Try to leave Steam open in the background and when it shows that message, choose not to start the game. Retry after 30-60 seconds and check if it's solved. Anyway you can check if you're still in the beta or not: just press ALT+ENTER and check the number in the build on the window upper bar: if it's 13 it reverted to SU7, if it's 18 you're still in the beta. 2. Here it works correctly. I suspect there is something wrong with your installation. Try to remove the C172 (G1000) from the Content manager and redownload it... 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
December 25, 20214 yr Running a file integrity check in Steam will cause a complete reinstall of MSFS, Running it while also using the Beta may cause even more issues, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER run Steam's file integrity check for MSFS! Doing so will likely cause a complete MSFS reinstall everytime! James

Doing so will likely cause a complete MSFS reinstall everytime! Yes and no. 😉 Running the file integrity check will cause all the files in [blahblah]\Official\Steam to be deleted. If you have a backup of those file, they can be restored and MSFS will happily continue on as if nothing happened. If you do not have a backup, then yeah, you're looking at a complete re-install. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.

The backup would contain the same files that you suspect corrupted. The integrity check that deletes everything is one of the many bugs / poor design features of MSFS, I found out for myself once. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber

Not all the MSFS files are contained in the Official\Steam folder. The executable and associated DLL's are installed elsewhere, they are the ones that the file integrity check, checks (and does not delete). Steam can't check the integrity of files downloaded by MSFS itself (which are the files in the Official\Steam folder). Restoring those files is what I was on about, not restoring the executable and associated DLL's. As noted, it is best to avoid running Steam's file integrity check on MSFS. However, should one happen to do so, and one has a backup of the Official\Steam folder, restoring that folder (only!) will work. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
