My mom and dad liked em. Not picked, boiled I recall. Sweat breads too. ( Testicles). And brains! One day I came home from school and there was a brain in the kitchen in a bowl. She used to spread brains on a sandwich. 😁 It was something they did during the war I think, due to shortages.

No way was I prepared to try brains on toast or in a sandwich. Testicles I did try which were quite tasty, as we're the pigs feet.

My dad once had to force himself to eat sheep brains. He and some of his fellow CAG employees were negotiating with some village big-wigs in Iran for a piece of land they needed for a VOR/DME installation somewhere east of Shiraz. As dad was the head honcho of the USAID/CAG team, he was given the "honor" of the uncooked brains! Yuch!!! To have refused this gracious gift would likely have insulted his host, and worse, possible mission failure. On an aviation note, dad recalled one incident that was very scary. USAID had a retired MATS DC3 assigned to the CAG group he led. They flew a mercy flight to rescue a small group Iranian nomads one cold winter whose possessions had been destroyed by a wicked avalanche. Dad was sitting up front in the jump seat. After about a half-hour into the flight, smoke was smelled up in the cockpit and dad went back into the cabin only to discover that these fellows had lit a fire because they were cold! They became very belligerent when dad grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out their fire... Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
