Community folder in root directory after update

Featured Replies

After opting out of the beta and updating to the latest version I discovered that I have two community and two official folders, one in the original directory (local cache/packages) and one in the root directory. The ones in the root directory are the active ones. So far, everything seems to be working fine but I‘m wondering if anybody else experienced this and if it might cause problems.

I had this same issue, with the folders in the root being the "active" ones. While it didn't seem to be causing any issues I did uninstall and them reinstall yesterday. That "fixed" things and the 2 folders are now back to where they started, just in case.

.....and wherever you placed the main (root) simulator folder\Community if you made a custom installation.

I have asked about this in another thread but still require help.

So now I have a problem that I need help with. I was on the Beta program and did remove myself from it before I did the update through the MS Store. I use MSFS AddonsLinker for all Community folder addons. I previously placed a separate Community and Official folders on my G drive (AddonsLinker is on my H drive). The update appeared to have been a full reinstall as it took several hours to complete. MSFS seems to load and function properly but all of my Community folder addons found in the G: MSFS Community folder are not recognized and are not available in the sim.

In doing a file search I find that I have the MSFS files in the default location on my C drive, Users folder under MSFS8wek folder (AC, AppData, Local Cache, LocalState, RoamingState, Settings,SystemAppData, TempState). All of these files show as Linked (Blue Arrow) except for SystemAppData which has no blue arrow. On my G drive MSFS I have three folders: Community, New Folder, Official. The Community folder contains all of my addons shown as links with Blue Arrows. The New Folder shows all of these addons without Blue Arrows. The Official folder shows all of the appropriate addon folders without Blue Arrows and those items appear to work in the sim.

My question is how do I now get my Community Folder addons to be recognized?

Thanks for your help.

Like most things in this sim, this is a bit convoluted. My Steam install  also has two Community folders :

- one in C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages which is empty

- one in D:\SteamLibrary where the sim is. This one has all my addons .

But this is even more complicated than it appears as if the first Community is empty, all the addons still have a folder by its side in Packages, each with few files that looks like symbolic links .

The only redeeming feature that I find is that my P3D install was not much more lisible 😄 !

I had the same problem. Couldn't figure out why my linked addons weren't showing in the sim. I had 2 installs.

I simply deleted the new installation Official and Community folders from the "normal" MSFS install directory in AppData (I guess the OP calls this "root"?)

When I restarted the sim using the same start menu link I did to launch the old version it went back to all normal using my original install in E:\MSFS...

MDFlier, thank you that was the answer. Once I deleted the Community and Official folders in the "root" and restarted the sim it indicated an update was available. I made sure that my community folder on the G Drive was empty. This time I directed the update to the appropriate MSFS folder on my G Drive and the update was fast. I then used MSFS Addons Linker to populate my G Drive Community folder and all worked well.
