Hats Off to MSFS 2024 Team
Full disclosure: I am not a RL pilot, but do have plenty of hours as a passenger in many types of small to large planes and helicopters. Note that I am not a computer geek but more on the luddite end of the spectrum. I have a very high end system and have been an active simmer since FSX days. My indoor hobby is flight simming to learn about aviation and to fly low and slow to see the world and to fly around areas I have been lucky to visit on the ground. I pre ordered the Aviation edition and downloaded on the 19th. I have experienced most of the negative issues many have identified. I have patiently been exploring the complexities of MSFS 2024 and will need several more weeks of learning and experimenting to set up things the way that I will want them to be. I expected that would be the case. I have, during the last two days, spent some wonderful hours in the 172. Those experiences have made the journey so far worth the effort and filled me with excitement for the future. Thanks to all of those who have worked so hard to bring us and continue to develop MSFS 2024 and to those developing and modifying addons. Thanks to those positive members here who constructively share their knowledge and and advice to help others. Passions should be be enjoyed and shared.

Active Sky Cloud Art for FSX & P3D - Released!
I have been following this topic all along trying to figure out which way to go. Recently I have been a REX texture and ASN weather engine user and happy camper. Always ready to upgrade for performance, I was prepared to upgrade but needed other users input to push me in a direction. I did not see any screen shots or videos that were making me happy with the imagery and agreed with most comments that clouds and sky textures were not great from ASCA. But what the heck I bought AS16 and ASCA but didn't install right away. So two days ago I was sitting in my sun room drinking my morning coffee and looked up at the cloudy sky. All that I could see was a perfect screen shot of AS16 + ASCA textures that I have been encountering in this and other forums. I spent the rest of the day looking at the real sky here and then going back to forum screen shots. ASCA was indeed depicting real clouds and sky in my area as close to reality as one could hope for. AS16 and ASCA now installed and working perfectly. I am very pleased with what I see on my triple screen cockpit in all of my flights so far. It matches real life. Now I understand that the imagery on the forums can't give you a true perspective of how it will appear on your sim and that you should not be put off simply by those images from others. The screen shots and videos will continue to be a part of my evaluation in the future but only a part. I am sure that REX will also produce a great product(s) for us. AS and REX will each have strengths and weaknesses in the eyes of the individual users as we each have different needs and desires with our sims. I don't think that anyone will be totally unhappy with their choice whatever they decide. Thanks to both developers for enhancing our sim experiences.

gdiplus.dll error
Jay, Thanks for your response. Though I haven't counted them I also have several versions on my pc. The file version does exist on my pc and I have attempted several repair installs of P3D. Should I delete the file and try a repair install of P3D again. I have placed the problem on the P3D forum but no response.

gdiplus.dll error
I am running the latest version of P3D on the most recent update of Windows 10. For the past few days whenever I hit the button to load a flight in P3D after a few seconds the screen comes up and tells me that P3D.exe has encountered a problem and will close. When I go to Windows event viewer it identifies that the offending module is gdiplus.dll version 10.0.10586.20. Has anyone any experience with this problem and what I may do to resolve it? Copy of detailed error message below. Prepar3D.exe 3.3.3.17556 5747897d gdiplus.dll 10.0.10586.20 565418df c0000005 0009659d fac 01d1d22754b55986 P:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Prepar3D.exe C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.windows.gdiplus_6595b64144ccf1df_1.1.10586.20_none_22adb5eaa762c7fa\gdiplus.dll fedceacc-119d-4cb2-8414-12fa78621c89 I know that this dll is a graphics issue, but the computer and 980Ti work well outside of this P3D error. Thanks.

Does the Pro Clip add much to the TrackIR?
Look at the TrackHat Clip Plus to remain wireless. A bit larger and slightly heavier than the Pro Clip but also very solid. Works great for me. (http://www.trackhat.org/#!trackhat-clip-plus/cvhw).

Enforced FS Break (again) :-(
Hi Phil, Pesky things those relapses I would suppose. Don't let them get you down though. Believe in the better days that are coming! There are an awful lot of people wishing you strength and resilience in your recovery, you are far from alone. Best wishes.

P3D Crashing to desktop while loading
I have periodically been facing the same problem lately but normally after 100% loading of the flight. I have checked the windows event viewer and have found that at different times different .dll files are listed as the source for failure. I have tried many fixes and none seemed to work. I unplugged the machine and left it for a couple of days and all of a sudden things were fine. It worked flawlessly for a couple of days and now I face the problem again. My machine is unplugged for a few days. I will follow this thread in the hopes that you find a solution, one that perhaps will also work for me. Best of luck!

unable to complete reinstallation
Stephen, Thanks. I finally located the errant SimConnect MSI file and reloaded it. All perfect now. Appreciate your patience. It just took me a while to understand where it was located. Rick

unable to complete reinstallation
Stephen, Thanks for your reply. I have read the FAQ and followed all of your instructions and still have the same error message when I try to run FSI. For clarification, SimConnect (several renditions) are on my P drive where P3D is installed. Also Microsoft.NET in several versions is installed on the C Drive. I am attempting to install OPUSFSI on the C drive. I am not sure if I purchased an upgrade from OPUS FSX to OPUSFSI or the full OPUSFSI licence. In any case the download file unwraps and I install as per instructions but get the error message every time that I try to open the program.Any ideas? Rick

unable to complete reinstallation
I have built a new computer, installed Win 10 and P3D V3.2. I have downloaded and installed OPUSFSI latest Beta but when I try to setup the OpusFSI Server Program I always get "System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for "d" threw an exception. ....>System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The specific module could not be found. ...." I thought maybe as this was probably and upgrade to FSI from Opus that I needed to reinstall Opus. So I downloaded it but get the same error when I try to open Opus. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

web site for comparing price of components
Hi, In the past I have seen people in threads refer to parts and prices on a web site that allows for you to insert the part, such as MOBO, and it lists current prices for each part and a total for your build. In my memory it also did this for Canadian outlets I thought that I had saved the url for this site but can't locate it anymore. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. OK. I just found it "PCPartPicker".

3 Monitor Setup Research
paddler replied to glsimpilot's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI run 3 X Dell 24 inch UHD screens at a 45* angle and really enjoy the peripheral vision feel that I don't believe that I would get from a single 34* curved monitor. Mind you, I would love to have three of those babies in my setup. A dream some day! Rick

Best Hardware for Accuracy
I have never experienced nor read about any idling problems with the PFC throttles. I had two Saitek quadrants (one attached through the saitek yoke and the second usb) and frankly found them unrealiable and frustratingly problematic with spurious inputs more fequently than not. Never had a problem with the PFC quadrants.

Best Hardware for Accuracy
+1 I have a PFC C 2 Professional console and wouldn't hestitate to recommend their equipment. Wish I had bought the rudder pedals along with the throttle quadrants but will get them soon. Rick

Number Key Pad Help
I have two Targus number keypads that I have connected to my computer by USB cables. The intent was to use these to activate the ATC choices by mapping with FSUIPC. I had one for use with my yoke and one for use with my helicopter collective. I have had them working in the past but now they are not. The key assignments show up in FSUIPC, there are no conflicts with controls in FSX and they do show up in as HID components in my windows (Win 7) control panel. Even the number keypad on my key board does not work with the ATC window. I have reconfigured in FSUIPC, plugged and unplugged the usb connections and even tried different usb ports. I know that the problem is probably something very simple, but alas it escapes me. I am confined to using my mouse to click the desired ATC choice. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance. Rick
