MSFS G-Sync variable refresh rate range of 30-40 fps

Sounds like you could be shifting the work away from the gpu and placing it on the cpu? Try and become gpu limited. don’t cap frames so low. Try 40fps.
Also if you cap frames, try using RTSS, as it will Smooth your frame time out when using gsync.

also, below 30fps I believe LFC kicks in, even with g-sync ultimate. This in effect causes your display to display 60hz for 30fps. Whereas at 31fps it will be 31hz. Can cause juddering. And is awful below 30fps anyways.

I’d try locking at 40fps. And play with settings to keep it there, fluently and consistently. Use RTSS, and then see how g-sync feels.

also, these days, 30fps is really bad on high hz monitors, especially OLED displays. Much more noticeable than older monitors and TVs. 40 fps is ok, but 60fps is the gold target.

yes i always use RTSS and so far the gold spot for my setup is 48fps.MSFS is ultra smooth and keeps my gpu in good temp ( 55-60max).  I think a 144hz Monitor have the smoothest results at 144-72-48 fps.

My main issue is always the dangerous area of 30-40fps and thats why i bought a "true" G-sync Monitor to eliminate juddering/micro stutters on this fps range.

So I've been struggling with this since getting a Gsync 144hz monitor at xmas.  I was getting a flickering effect in the sim, but after locking my FPS to 48 (as advised back in this thread) the problem seems to have gone away and the sim is much smoother,

This is where people commonly get hung up on their "G-Sync" monitors. It's not the upper end of the refresh rate spectrum that they need to look closely at, but the bottom end. What is it's Variable Refresh Rate range? If it's just a G-Sync compatible monitor with a refresh rate range of say 48-240hz, it's essentially useless for simming unless you can hold a steady 48fps.

This is SO right.

3 years ago I too fell victim of the "G-Sync compatible" marketing and bought a Freesync 2 Ultimate monitor. It could get down to 30 Hz with a software mod but it suffered brightness flickering (like EVERY Freesync monitor on the market) and performed poorly in terms of latency at refresh lower than 60 Hz. I ended up not using VRR at all with MSFS.

Only since I have a proper G-Sync monitor (with built-in G-Sync hardware) I realized that G-Sync is just a superior technology and the "free and open" counterpart is absolutely not equivalent as marketing advertises.
