I use a rolling cache of 8GB but network latency and ports also play a part I suspect. Try to run a hardwired connection to your router if you can, and also change your DNS settings to google or cloudflare. Just noticed this is also recommended on the official zendesk now:

Many fields I fly to IRL has a textual appendix to the VAC where very specific landmarks, buildings are designated as cues navigating in the proximity of the airfield or in the pattern. 

Autogen is next to useless for these VFR maneuvers.

A particular building may not look exactly the same, but it will be in the right place. Together with accurately placed woods/roads/rivers/railways plus accurate mesh, even quite complex VFR procedures should be achievable in the sim without to much trouble.
