February 13, 20224 yr Finnair is the flag carrier of Finland. In my post of DC-10 Classic Airlines, I'd included a screenshot of the Finnair DC-10-30. And today, I ran into a current Finnair livery on an A350-900 (XWB)... Finnair was a predominant operator of McDonnell Douglas jetliners for nearly 30 years, and had a remarkable history with both DC-10 and MD-11 a/c. However, as the MD-11/MD-11Fs were gradually phased out, it has finally (and currently) evolved into an exclusively all-Airbus fleet (including the latest A350 XWB). Finnair livery has gone though some subtle but significant changes, over the years. You will find here a few examples from the virtual world. The first shot, below, is the same one I'd shown earlier of the Finnair DC-10-30. This is the older livery (using light blue colors) with the blue cross, on the tail, on a white background (same as on the Finnish flag). Note that the (blue) crossbars are not of equal length but in the ratio and proportion (11:18) of the Finnish flag. On this DC-10 livery, you'll also notice the Finnair logotype (the stylized ‘F’) symbol, in front fuselage under the LHS cockpit windows. The "F" logo is white on a blue circular outline (representing the globe). And the "FINNAIR" name appears above the windows (above the blue cheatline) of the fuselage. The 2nd shot is that of a Finnair MD-11...this special "Santa Claus" livery, sports the stylized "F" logo (instead of the blue cross) on the tail. The logo is now white on a blue background (with no globe outline). In December 2010, the company revealed its newest livery, using dark blue colors. Major changes included a restyled and larger lettering on the body (now the name spans across the windows and the lengthwise blue cheatline is no longer there), and the tail has the same blue stylized "F" logo in white background. The 3rd shot, below, is of a Finnair Airbus 350-900 (XWB) in this new livery. Finally, the 4th and 5th shots are of a Finnair MD-11, also, in the same new livery. A painter has created a livery of the PMDG MD-11 in this "what-if" livery...so, I wished to share...Note the "BOEING MD-11" mark on the fuselage. Finnair operated (pax) MD-11s for about 20 years between 1991-2010. During that period, McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing in August 1997. Hope you enjoy these few pictures as Finnair has moved on from the (legacy) DCs/MDs of the past to the (modern) A350s of the present... Thanks for viewing...!!

February 14, 20224 yr Great set! Isn´t Finnair also Santa Claus´ official (seasonal) carrier? Btw, I remember when my parents and I went on holidadys and our plane landed in LDDU Dubrovnik airport in the seventies of the last century (and actually, last milennium, which today makes me feel like some kind of surviving dinosaur), I was impressed to find a large Finnair DC-10 parked at the ramp. We ourselves had arrived in a well-seasoned 😉 Aviogenex Tu-134 instead.
