February 15, 20224 yr Why do I have to reinstall dozens of files every time there is a MSFS update ? WU files of all previous downloads, Files for purchased airports, etc. I have searched this forum for any answer to this problem. No luck. Does anyone else have this problem ? February 15, 20224 yr Everything that it wants to download has had something within it updated. Certain updates can affect a lot of items. It's a part of the process, not really a problem. Most of the time you are not downloading the entire WU or airport when there is an update. Only the specific files within that WU or airport that have changed. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
February 16, 20224 yr Author Let me add some other info. These appear in my Content Manager. I also have 84 files that say they have not been installed but I know I have installed, including purchased airports, for example. They all exist in the proper MSFS file folders. If I just ignore these particular files, everything is OK. Is this normal ? Does everyone have these problems ? Maybe I should continue ignoring them, but they will continue to clog up my Content Manager page. David Hinson

Hi David, So what happens if you download those 84 files again, exit and restart the sim. Do receive the same indications in the Content Manager? Also, have you ever moved the sim to a new location or possibly, and more importantly, pointed a sim update to a different location than your initial installation directory? I'm wondering if your MSFS install isn't spread out to different locations on your HD. Regards, Kendall 7800X3D/G.B. February 17, 20224 yr Author Nope to all. How do you point an update to a different location. I just click "Download" and it goes to work. I DO NOT want to download these files again. I have tried that on several and it takes FOREVER, even with my pretty fast download speeds (20-30 Mbps Dave David Hinson
February 17, 20224 yr Is your MSFS installation on your C drive or a different drive? If it is on a separate drive, it may be that your updates were not made consistently on the same drive, this does happen. Can you please clarify? February 18, 20224 yr Author On same C; drive. And it is not all updates - some purchased and installed products show as "Not Installed", and the appropriate files exist in the proper folder. If I use the product, it is there. Dave David Hinson
February 18, 20224 yr David, can you check the very last line of your MSFS UserCfg.opt file where it tells you the location of your "InstalledPackages", and verify this is correct with your install? It might help you to understand. what is going on Bernard CPU = 12900K / GPU = Nvidia 3090 VRAM 24 GB / RAM = 64 GB / SSD = 2 TB 980 PRO PCle 4.0 NVMe™ M.2,

February 22, 20224 yr This path is correct Dave. I see three possible explanations: In your initial post you mention that previous WU required to be updated, this is correct and can be done if you wish (this is not mandatory), ASOBO does update previous WU, so it is your option to do it or not. You indicate that your purchased airports also require an update, this is related to the WU most likely, since some files would need to be changed to work with the WU. I don't see any contradictions there, it happens to me as well that some of my airport add-ons need to be updated after a WU. The third point is that before the last SU, in Content, some of my add-ons were shown as not installed (when they actually were), so I simply ignored that. But I have not noticed that recently though. To summarise, anything in your Content folder is optional, you may or may not update, bear in mind that if you don't, you may find some odd results in some of your add-ons. Whatever is mandatory will appear on your MSFS loading screen when it looks for update, if you don't have a message at that time, you're good to go.
