May 17, 200719 yr Before i get haggled let me assure anyone thinking i am not happy with SP1 that i, most certainly am happy with it.I am getting really great frames a solid 30-35, never seems to drop below 30 when running fraps or the FSX FPS marker but quite often i get these heavy stutters and i am wondering if theres a graphic setting within fsx that is known to cause heavy stutters or perhaps a work around to reduce them =) I have most settings Med to very high traffic is nearly turned off AA and AF are on but when testing with and without the stutters are still there. I am running at 1280 X 1024 32 bit color shadows and bloom off but none of them seem to matter as far as the stuttering goes, they only reduce my avg FPS.Any ideas or tips would be very much appreciated.Thank you in advance =)Jason.
May 17, 200719 yr fps capped?water set to 1.x?what is your hw? where are you flying? ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.
May 17, 200719 yr Phil, just an FYI, the locking slider has had really no affect for me after SP1....there's a large variance even while the slider is locked.... say from 15 to 24 while flying straight and level in the C172 at 100ktsPrior to SP1, no large variance....maybe +/- 1 Flying with the same settings as I used before SP1, and my fiber frame of .27, I get intense stutters - and apparently so do many others in the "technical issues" thread. I intentionally set a lower fiber frame when I was running RTM because I wanted that smooth flight, even if texture loading suffered a bit....it was very very very smooth before Sp1...I'm wondering if the majority of us with single cores are getting the stutters - it may be the case....I don't know who runs with because some users don't post their system specs in their signature.I will do some more testing....I'm thinking it has to do with autogen batching etc...but I'm not a programmer :)Anyway, thanks for staying in touch with the MS FS users.... and thanks for getting SP1 out!!! | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 17, 200719 yr Fps capped or unlimited yields the same results.Water is set to 1.x but as above changing this setting up or down yields no positive result.Amd X2 4400+Nvidia 7950gt2gigs of Ram250gb SATA2 Totally clean install including windows XP, Solid system thoroughly tested all components are in the Green.Thank you very much for the response.Jason.
May 17, 200719 yr so where are your settings? medium low? medium high?care to try an experiment by flying a flight at SeaTac with each setting from medium low to ulta high and see what variation that adds to your fps and report it here? Its exceedingly strange that dropping from water 2 to water 1 doesnt change anything, are bloom and shadow off too?we need some consistent data across the range of settings on the same flight, with config details. maybe if we get enough posts of that format, we can start to see a pattern. ex-Aces Lead PM, FSX SP1 and SP2 ex-Intel LRB native title enablement, ex Intel Gaming and Graphics Samples PM now Graphics and Multicore PM in Visual Computing Software Enabling.

I am sorry about my first post, i did not mean to say i had no change with bloom or shadow, changing water and such. As i explained in my post (if i spoke it correctly) does not correct nor reduce the stuttering effect for me although all of the above most certainly do lower my AVG FPS.I have as far as i am able eliminated all hardware as being suspect, although as of yet i of course can not rule this out. (please excuse my terrible punctuation)My specs are in the post above but i noticed i left out my MOBO which is.A8N32-SLI DeluxeI have exhausted myself with testing ATM and need a break, my testing is more by memory, feel and what seems good to me then it is a mathematical deduction process so i have no definitive data to present, in the future i will make note of my changes good and bad and present them. Thanks again =)Jason.
May 17, 200719 yr Hate to have to report that I too am getting great frame rates, but irritating small stutters, especially when banking. Just enough to be irritating. Hope someone comes up with a workaround for this.
May 17, 200719 yr Well here are my settings, if you find them to be to high i urge you to understand that i rarely get less than 25 fps as they are, it is the stutters that are my problem =) Just a note. the autogen settings in these caps are lower then usual, i was testing to see if that was the cause but sadly it was not.Really appreciate all the help.JasonHow do i place images directly, does not seem to work through Photobucket.

There was a post that lowering it back to the default 40 reduces the stuttering, and with no negative effects. If you do see some problems. Usually blurries, increase this value until you reach a happy medium, between the blurries, and stutters. Running it at the max 400 has been known to introduce stutters in the past!! Thank you for the tip but sadly my Mulit by default is already set to 40 so i dont think this is the case for me.
May 17, 200719 yr I know I probably sound like a "broken record" but I think you should also ask people if they are running any anti virus.I have Zone Alarm anti virus and it has a option (which is on by default) to automatically scan any files that are accessed by any program. If ZA does this when FSX is running I get minor stutters. So, I turn it off and no stutters.I assume other anti virus have similar features and would also degrade performance of FSX (and FS9 for that matter).I realize that some stutters are not related to anti virus, but you should at least rule that possibility out by asking what anti virus is running and whether it is configured to scan any file that is accessed.BTW I love SP1, FSX is much faster and fluid with dense autogen. Thanks ACES and Phil! :-beerchug Matthew S
May 17, 200719 yr After some more testing i think i have at least found the culprit......its the TREES. I can fly around NY.NY. with Great frames and nearly no Stutter but put me in near a forest or some rugged terrain and i experience extreme stuttering. Do the old tree tweaks still work, and if not what can i do to keep some trees around without feeling as though someone's tugging on my leash all of the time. Thanks again to everyone.Jason.
May 17, 200719 yr I would agree with you and myself had come to a similar conclusion, to test it i uninstaled my McFee AntiVirus and experienced no decress in stutters. As of now i am pretty sure it at least for me has something to do with the trees.Regards Jason.
May 17, 200719 yr Did you uninstall FSX completely before reinstalling FSX and SP1?If you didn't I would try that... Complete uninstall, and also delete your FSX folder just to make sure its all gone. Also defrag after reinstalling FSX and SP1. Matthew S
May 17, 200719 yr Disabling vertical synchronization (vsync) performed miracles for me, regarding the initial extreme FPS fluctuation and stuttering.Phil suggested this somewhere, and for me it works well.Jaap Verduijn.
