ATC…. “Go around”

Featured Replies

I came in for a landing at Donegal earlier, and all was going according to plan. I was instructed to come straight in on runway#. So, on final approach, and probably only a quarter of a mile out, and close enough to smell the tarmac,  I got the instruction to “go around”.  I couldn’t see a reason why, there was no aircraft on the ground, and nobody particularly close. So, I decided to play the game and went around. As I was on the downwind leg, I did see another plane setting up for landing, but he/she was at least 4 miles out.

I have been granted permission, and instruction, to land a few times this week, and received the “go around” message just as I’m within touching distance. It rarely used to happen before. Is this now a common issue? Also, what is the real life protocol concerning landing priorities. I can’t, for a moment, believe I should be playing second fiddle to an aircraft who’s several miles behind me, when I’m 10-20 seconds away from touchdown.

Just land, the default ATC from FSX, through every version of P3d and MSFS has no idea what it's using for any kind of separation standards.

Default ATC, Heh, may as well have no ATC.

The Ai traffic ahead of you had already performed a go-around and ATC won't let anyone land until that plane finally does - which it likely never will - as this ATC behavior hasn't been corrected from FSX.  As Dave says, just land anyway.

That sort of makes sense, but doesn’t allow for the fact I’d already been told to fly “straight into Runway#”.  Ordinarily I do just land regardless, but lately I’ve been feeling the urge to do it properly.  I do get fed up of being told “Lima-Bravo-Lima, you have not been cleared to land”, or words to that effect, even though I have, or had until the dying seconds.

Kind of like my beef of being vectored in onto the glidescope and cleared to land only to have a faster commercial jet that was vectored in behind me and #2 to land overtake me (or crash into me ending my flight) during final.
