Camera panning down slowly?

Featured Replies

I'm wondering if anyone has run into this before and has a fix. It's only come up for me in the past couple of weeks or so (maybe after the last update?).

When sitting in any cockpit (aircraft doesn't matter, either default aircraft or add-on), as soon as I enter the cockpit the camera very slowly pans downward toward my legs. It's so slow it took me a few minutes to realize what was happening when I realized my view wasn't what I wanted, but now I can just sit and watch it happen while I keep my head still. This happens with or without TrackIR, so it's definitely the sim.

It persists to the point where it's making using TrackIR really tough, and even flying w/o TrackIR I'm constantly re-centering the view.

I've looked through settings, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

That happens to me if I have my Xbox controller connected at the same time as my Yoke in cockpit, I only use the Xbox controller in drone mode, but I have to turn it off if I jump into the cockpit.

This is a known issue. Some people have fixed it by increasing the deadzone for the Xbox controller (in MSFS controller settings) so that it doesn't move the view in the cockpit. But like you, I tend to just take the battery holder out of my controller. It's a good idea to switch on/wake the controller before flying too, to avoid a "new controller" popup interrupting you.

Thank you for the responses. I should have mentioned I'm on PC---is there an equivalent issue that you know of w/ a HOTAS?

As are both of us who've replied so far. We're just using the Xbox controller for drone cam control. So the info above applies to PC. If you're not using an Xbox controller at all, then it may be a different issue you have.

Just nudge any joystick you have connected to re-center it. I sometimes have to nudge my xbox controller (which I only use for drone view) when I see the map screen moving on its own.

Ah, that makes sense. Appreciate the clarification.

So the weird thing is that this drifting issue doesn't happen anywhere else (maps, menus, etc.). It's literally only the POV cam in the cockpit. I don't have any controllers hooked to the PC besides my hotas, and the only thing on the HOTAS (that I know of) that changes the POV is the hat switch, which "snaps" to different views. I usually use TrackIR, so I've never needed any kind of panning/looking around kind of control.

It could be that the hat switch, which normally is used for panning is making a slight contact due to dust or something.
Mine (TM HOTAS) is dirty and pans to the right sometimes.

Especially if it's an analog "hat" switch as on the throttle of the TM1600.  The 1600 has hall effect sensors, but only on the X/Y axis of the joystick itself. Every other axis/slider is a traditional pot (or at least, behaves like one - if they do use HE sensors, they're particularly terrible ones), and they get noisy faster than most controllers I've had.  Since I have some camera moves assigned to the mini-stick on the front of the throttle, I sometimes have to flick it to recenter it and eliminate the noise.

Easiest is to just un-assign any camera controls from controllers, and just use the mouse to move the camera around (click the scroll wheel to activate the camera move).

If it helps, I just fixed this on my PC by going Controls Options -> Camera -> Cockpit Camera  and unassigning Cockpit View Pitch Axis and Cockpit View Yaw Axis  on my Throttle settings.
