VClouds - High Vs Ultra

Recommended Posts

I'm liking high due to added smoothness.

Difference between ultra and high is night and day for me- I stick with high though, at almost 4K resolution, ultra is just too much for my 9900K and 3080.

Interesting takes here.. @blueshark747 prefers Ultra in VR with a 1080Ti. @kiwikat says Ultra is to much with a 3080.

I have a 3070Ti and set clouds to Ultra in 2D. Med-High in VR(prefer HIGH) because I notice a difference also but Ultra in VR is too much I feel.

Yup it seems my setup is outperforming later hardware in both 2d and VR.

I may have an edge with just all around ironed out much more matured optimized drivers for the older 1080ti vs the newer 2x/3x cards.

I run some pretty high/ultra settings in MSFS in VR along with 1.4SS in Oculus Debug Tool, butter smooth performance.

I can even run the Iniscene Heathrow airport scenery pretty well as compared to most along with these.

Which make for some pretty good demanding hardware performance benchmarks

Hence why I see no reason to upgrade for now.

I mean don't get me wrong, I can easily run it on ultra but the FPS hit just isn't worth it to me. I want to be as close to 60 fps as possible with high+ settings at 100% native resolution.

I never thought to check out high settings vs ultra for clouds. I notice better performance on high and I really can't tell the difference between the ultra visually. I think I might stick with high settings.

If you are visually developed (not that I say you guys are not), the difference between high and ultra is quiet visible.

At 1080 I couldn't see much difference between high and ultra but at 1440 I certainly can.  I can only imagine that this would be even more pronounced at 4k.

If you are struggling for smoothness and/or FPS, dropping from ultra to high is a decent tradeoff as is renderscale and LOD reduction as these all have a major impact.

I can definitely see a significant difference in quality in VR. But Ultra is definitely a robber of frames, and I always err towards the smoother end of the spectrum. So it’s High for me.
