Corrupted install - losing my brain

Featured Replies

Hello,

I asked this same question about six months ago and got no answers. I still have hope.

I have a Steam install of FS2020 and it's very broken. The Microsoft part seems out of my machine except for just enough to think it's still in my machine. I uninstall it on Steam, try again, Steam loads the first part, and then I get an MS screen that says "Let's get you signed in" and it locks there every time. I would remove the sim from my Steam library and buy it again except I'm sure it would still just lock up, thinking it's in my PC even though it isn't.

I am happy to entertain any suggestions, including trashing my PC and lighting it on fire.

Thank you.

It sounds like there may be still files left on your system from the original installation. Therefore causing it to fail when your trying to re-install. I don't know what to really suggest, other than contacting Steam about it, and see if they can help in any way.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

I would try uninstalling FS2020 from Steam and then looking through all folders, including appdata\roaming and delete all FS2020 things you find.  Check Control Panel to see if FS2020 still shows there after uninstalling.  Maybe even uninstall Steam and remove any Steam folder you find.  Then try again.  It could be some entries in the Registry that is causing the issue.  You need to be careful in there though. Lastly, and most drastic would be to wipe Windows and start from scratch.  Nothing like a fresh install of Windows. though you need to backup anything you may need prior to the wipe.  It can be a big job to wipe and rebuild  but fresh Windows is like a new computer.  Good Luck.

Confirming the above ref. appdata.

Had a similar issue some 8 months back. Deleting all FS2020 "things" in appdata\roaming folder finally did the trick for me. Please note that some folders & sub folders were hidden if I recall.

Cheers,

A last ditch fix would be to backup and format C:/ and re-install Windows. Gives you a fresh start with no latent stuff in the registry and other folders to cause havoc. Depending on what other software you have, it might be the quickest and cleanest solution.

It’s taken you 6 months and no solution. This option will get you up and running in a few hours, download speed dependent of course.

Thanks. I'm going FS2020 hunting. If there is success I'll mail you a beer. 🙂

To me reinstalling windows to fix a sim problem is like having a car where the brakes squeal and the first thing one tries  is replacing the transmission.

Excelsior! A blessing upon your house, a pox upon your foes, and delicious beer for your descendants. 🍺

Found an 8GB folder of garbage, fried it, and I'm reinstalling 120GB now, albeit glacially. it's been a bit of a bummer seeing all the nice updates coming out and not being able to fly. Mind you DCS, and I have had some quality time together. Definitely going to be flying tonight.

Much appreciation. 😎

It sure would be a drastic move but would solve the issue.  As I said, if after uninstalling, etc. and there were still issues the registry would be my next area of investigation. Things can get tricky in there and one can easily mess Windows up in there.  So lets say the OP still couldn't get it working.  Spend more time banging head against wall or biting the bullet and going for a fresh Windows install.  He hasn't had a working FS in 4 months.  Rebuild would take like an hour and then installing other things would take some time but could be done while Steam and FS do their thing.

In the end it looks like the OP got things working without drastic measures and that all that counts.  I still like a fresh Windows install at times.  Gets rid of lots of word not allowed the Windows, etc. leaves behind degrading performance.  A lot easier if ones takes an image backup of a fresh Windows with all the drivers, apps, etc. installed 🙂

Morning,

I'm in. Took forever to download, but I just tried it out and it's perfect. Plopped me straight into Montreal for my first flight like it was yesterday. Went into ORBX Central and my stuff was still there and loaded up fine. The sim looks great.

Thanks again for the help. Very much appreciated. 🙂
