March 27, 20224 yr 757 has been always a favorite of mine...both in SIM and from RW flights in it...have flown several times in the 757s of AA, who had operated 177 of those planes, before their forced retirement, last year, due to the pandemic. I recall my first 757 flight, years ago,...I was late to the (O'Hare) Gate...and while rushing, I happened to ask a uniformed stewardess approaching from the other direction...for a bit of help...she had told me, "...your plane is waiting...a few gates down...on RHS...it will be a thin and long plane...you cannot miss it..."...exactly that's what it was...hard to miss...no wonder it was called the "Flying Pencil"...The 757 had exactly filled the market niche, it was intended for, way back 40 years ago, and even today remains irreplaceable in many respects...especially in the freighter market (if you wish, please refer back to my 757-200 Freighter post). More modern planes (B767, A321, and even B737 MAX) have failed to replace it...almost as if only a "new and improved" 757 can match the old 757... (recall now the old saying, “the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3” ...) ...! The A321LR/A321XLR are lately coming close as replacements for the 757, though still lacking in performance...And on the Boeing side, all (737, 757, 767, and 787) are (potential) candidates for upgrade to mimic the old 757...remains to be seen... The less-known B757-300 (an even longer variant of the "Flying Pencil" - see images below), in the (unfamiliar) color of JMC Air, is what I came across today, making me recall that I'd acquired the -300 (CS) variant recently, but have not flown it much... JMC Air, shown, was a UK Charter airline. The Charter Airline business is known to be like a musical chair...with frequent mergers, acquisitions, and consolidations of the airlines involved, often necessitated for survival. JMC Air was no exception. Once formed from the merger of (Caledonian Airways and Flying Colours) and named after the initials of the son of Thomas Cook, John Mason Cook, the airline eventually got rebranded as Thomas Cook Airline, and lost its identity. What's notable about JMC Air is that the airline was the first UK operator of the stretched Boeing 757-300 (Condor was the first EU operator of it). See, below, for 7 pictures (first 7 shots) of the JMC 757-300. The 757-300, due to its greater length (see the 5th image, below, for an impression), features a retractable tailskid on its aft fuselage to avoid tail strikes (similar to that later added on the 777-300). It's controlled by the landing gear lever; it retracts when landing gear is selected UP and extends when landing gear is selected DOWN. You may spot it under the tail, in my 1st and 3rd images, below, of the 757-300. The skid seems to have been retracted in clean configuration (5th and 6th images) - thanks to this CS simulation... The other two repaints (for (767-300F) that caught my attention, in the library, today, are for Cargojet and NAC (Cargo): Cargojet is a scheduled cargo airline based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Just last year, in January 2021, Cargojet announced its intent to add additional Boeing 767F as well as Boeing 777F aircraft to its fleet. See, below, for one image of its 767-300F. Northern Air Cargo (NAC) is an airline based in Anchorage, Alaska. It operates a small fleet of 737-300s and 737-400 freighter aircraft within the state of Alaska, as well as widebody Boeing 767-300s. Though not well-known internationally, it has been operational for ~65 years, in the freighter and charter business. I like its (current) dark red paint, though there have been many other variations of its livery from the past. I recall seeing, here, the (PMDG) DC-6B Everts Air Cargo, but not Northern Air Cargo DC-6 (from its former fleet) ...unless there exists a repaint of it already... (it would be a nice one) ...Anyway, see below, one picture of the NAC B767-300. And finally, just for its historical significance, I've also included an image of NAC B737-200F, from its former fleet, that I found in our SIM world. Looks nice... (FREIGHT DONE RIGHT!) ... Thanks for viewing...!
