VR and the Flysimware Cessna 414

Featured Replies

As the question has been asked about the Cessna 414 in VR in other threads I had to post a special mention of this bird as it is so well done in the feel of the aircraft.  To give context not every bird has that wow factor as other do it blew me away.  Feel of the real bird has to do with various reasons and not so much the detailed visual quality pushed out by the developers.  Many times it's just the characteristics if the real cockpit that stands out not only in the sim but the real aircraft.  Case in point I was surprised at Carenado's 182 in VR as I thought it lacking in 2d but it proved to be something totally different in VR.  I cross checked it with the real bird hangered at KISM in which I fly out of and I was pleasantly surprised at it's visual accuracy only noticeable in VR with the sense of depth.  It spot on captured the newer 182 in a way I hadn't seen before in a sim.  The same can be said now with the Cessna 414 and I'd dare to say even more so.  Is it the best modeled cockpit/cabin in FS2020, no but the character presented here of the real bird is second to none.  I challenge anyone to sit in the real aircraft and not come away with the same impression.  The default 172 is superior in many ways visually but doesn't capture the real 172 when sitting in the cockpit by comparison. Something is amiss with the default 172.  By contrast again the TBM/Baron/G36 is spot on then the KingAir doesn't feel quiet right.  Now again I'm talking about VR here and as always to each his own.  The 414 as of now beats them all in my book. The feel of this bird in VR has to be experienced to be appreciated.  So with that I'm looking forward to the official build and glad they gave (sold) us the beta to preview.  Ever since Flight1's Golden Eagle I wanted this series of birds back in FS and this was one heck of a job... 🍺

You're running VR with that current rig in your specs?  I'm not sure if my GTX 1080 Ti could handle VR.  What headset are you using?  Are you using it for IFR flight or just VFR fun?

Thanks for the report.

I use the HP Reverb G2.  I use it for 90% of my flying both IFR and VFR.  With this world update (Iberia) like usual has unlisted improvements and in this case VR performance and visual clarity.  So this add-on is really looking good.  Don't get me wrong we're not there yet but the sim's visuals and performance under VR is improving.  I found switching VR to 2D and not restarting the sim to fly either/or results in a performance loss.  The only issue is having the headset on for a long time.  You have to watch out for eye strain hence I still fly 2D from time to time (my 90% number I stated above).  I know I'm over answering your question but in a nut shell both ways to fly are great especially with this bird.

I have GTX 1080 Ti and HP Reverb G2 and I mostly fly VFR with GA planes and Spitfire IX. OpenXR Toolkit made my sim smooth. I have made lots of visual quality compromises, but the smooth VR is worth of it. And photogrammetry cites are too much for my hardware...

Ok thanks for the info.  Looks like I should at least consider VR.

Just bought this Aircraft, and none of my honeycomb Yoke setting work ( but do in all other 3rd party planes ). ie Hat switch for seating position, cockpit focus button etc. I know it's Beta, but is anyone else having VR problems

You have a 1080Ti and CPU at 4.7 and you're wondering whether that's good enough for VR?

I'm having a blast in VR using a i7 980 at 3.3 Ghz and a 1050 card. I would have double the fun with a system like yours.

OK, i'm using Rift CV1 so that is considered a low res, blurry experience with today's generation VR headsets, but still..... having a blast !
