Active Sky does use forecast data, but that same forecast data is also used to inject the winds into the sim. The GFS upper wind forecast is updated every 6 hours. If you load a flight plan into Active Sky, the winds aloft will be set exactly as shown in the flight plan for each waypoint. If the flight is long enough, a new update might come in while in flight, so the upper winds might differ from what was originally shown in the flight plan by the time you actually get to a distant waypoint.

yeah, that would make sense, as you guys said there's no way for ActiveSky to know the actual conditions. For me it's usually close but never exact, and yes this is taking the true vs. magnetic variation into account. But then again since it's always been close it's not something I've paid attention to, which I suppose is your point.

isn't that due to ND showing magnetic values (if your ND is set to MAG orientation that is) and FMC is true north output from the onside ADIRU.

Yeah you're right I think, I got that wrong.

Guys this whole debate because we are not seeing a WX engine in MSFS is useless. It will come its not that hard, PMDG is here. ASOBO has been supporting them from the start and things are looking amazing. Planes like this are what drive the WX community.
