April 16, 20224 yr If you have installed the boxed version are the updates still a pain in the posterior. I'm curious if I bought the boxed version would it be updated? I tried everything the Zen desk suggested, but cannot get the store version to download the update. And I do mean I did everything. Bill W

Bill W You would download the updates via online even if you get a "boxed" version - I'm pretty sure the boxed version will be a fairly old version or even the original release. I can't imagine they release new DVDs each time a major update is released. Have you thought about getting MSFS on Steam? I've never had a problem with updates using the steam version. April 17, 20224 yr Get the boxed version only if you want a momento on the bookshelf. The sim has been updated so many times since the DVD set was released. Why buy an old dog and restore it when you can have it brand new, out the box. You are far better off downloading the latest version from Steam than installing an outdated DVD set which then will require the same large download to replace and update the sim to the current build. And it will still be MS Store and that is the problem in your case it seems. I doubt DVD set will save you much, if anything on download size. And never accept the default installation path whether installing from DVD, Steam or MS store. It is totally illogical and problematic. However, as you already seem to own a “broken” MS Store version of MSFS, you are probably better off installing a fresh copy on a fresh Windows. Installing another copy of the sim over a broken copy is potentially not going to give desired results. April 17, 20224 yr Author I think you are exactly right, Greg. That really is about the only solution left for me. Thanks all for your input. Bill W.
April 17, 20224 yr I haven't bought a boxed version of any program for well over a decade at least. Like buying a 33rpm LP record.

April 20, 20224 yr Actually Aerosoft was responsible for it. MS saw no market and thus had no interest in releasing a boxed version. AS had to persuade MS and eventually produced a DVD version for the european market.
