May 9, 20224 yr Haven't been around that much for some time and was surprised (and not in a positive way) when I noticed how there are ads popping up pretty much everywhere these days. Even to a degree where the ads interfere with some of the functions as seen below. Where an add is partly blocking the button I need to press to start responding to the posts I've selected. I also noticed when replying to another post using my mobile how I had ads moving around both just above and below where I was typing. Making it very hard to concentrate on what I wanted to type. Wasn't a pleasant experience in any way. I've donated to AVSIM in the past and I fully get it requires money to run this kind of site. Where possible sources for that money could be both donations as well as income from ads. However, when the ads such as in this case start to almost overtake the overall experience of the site, then I think it's gone a bit too far. This is what it looked like described in my first example above Edited May 9, 20224 yr by WebMaximus Changed formatting
May 9, 20224 yr I agree - the advertising has become overly intrusive to the point of obscuring the main content at times. 9800X3D + RTX 4080 + 64GB DDR5

May 9, 20224 yr There was an identical topic posted a few weeks ago. It seems to affect a limited number of users, often those accessing Avsim using their phones. The solution, as suggested, is to use an ad blocker or change to a different browser. I only access Avsim on the pc and using Firefox I see none of these ads appearing. John B
May 9, 20224 yr Author Thanks for the advice but I don't really fancy having to switch to another web browser for a single website. I usually don't see these kind of issues at other sites. Unless I visit a site where it's kind of expected to be overwhelmed by ads. In the same way, I like to think it's quite common and taken for granted, people in 2022 will use their mobile devices to visit web sites of interest. As for ad blockers, that could be an option. Haven't looked into any of those in a long time. Last time I did (many years ago), I recall how they did work to a certain extent but also how they at some sites ended up blocking things that shouldn't be blocked. Meaning, some web sites didn't work as expected anymore with the ad blocker software installed. Guess there's a way to add exclusions though. Still, I like to stay away from ad blockers if possible. In general, I like to keep my PC as clean as possible and only install what I really can't be without. In my experience, using this approach often saves you from a lot of issues. Oh well, let's see for how long I'll be able to stick around in here before these ads are driving me crazy 😂
