Force Feedback Joysticks Support

The neo-luddite view that any tech that is not currently already in mass production and commonly available should be ignored as irrelevant is a distinctly odd one but to some extent Asobo does seem to hold that. They were also wary of VR and DLSS and the MSFS original implementation of HDR was truly awful.

This was explained a few times by Seb in the developer Q&As.

Presently, there are no consumer level force feedback devices on the market, thus it makes little sense to devote what would be a decent amount of resources to what is, in Windows, a pretty old and very barely supported hardware API. It's super risky to slap a bunch of code on old APIs that not even the platform teams at MS are presently supporting.

MSFS is not a big enough product to support a market of FFB devices by itself, so unless games go back to being more joystick focused like it was in the 90s and early 00s, I just don't see market forces changing to make it reasonable to devote resources to, sadly.

That being said, the sim publishes all sorts of data (all the acceleration forces, load factor, control extents, etc) that could be used by a third party to write an external software to do it. However, I fear the market may be small enough that third parties may not take up the helm either.

Hi,

Just discovered this nice FFB software AirForce Player developed for MSFS 🙂

For those lucky who still own a Sidewinder II😉

I'm trying it with helicopter with lot of damper/friction effect, and almost 0% centering and it's working fine. It makes easier to pilot heli. To me it only miss the engine/rotor vibration effect.
