Thanks

Right click on Microsoft Flight Simulator in the Start menu, and there is an option to Run as Administrator. I've never used it myself. T

The EXE file is hidden, not sure how to access it directly now but you used to be able to run it from a command line using the SDK.

I've got the Microsoft store version. The .exe is located here:

C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.26.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

It can be found by opening task manager, go to "details", right-click on Flightsimulator.exe then "open file location".

If you only want to set the file to run as an administrator, you don't need to open that folder.
Just do as Cpt_Piett suggests and then select properties and do it.

I was wrong in my previous post. When right-clicking on MSFS in task manager, the "open file location" option is greyed out. If you have the Microsoft store version, the .exe should be here:

C:\XboxGames\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content

There is a FlightSimulator.exe in the WindowsApps folder - but it's wise to stay far away from that folder as messing with stuff in there can potentially break Windows.

The fact that there's an .exe file in two different locations is super-confusing, but that's just how it is.

For steam versions, I guess it should be possible to open steam, right click on MSFS and choose properties.

Yes, the short answer is that if you have the MS Store version, the main EXE for MSFS is not accessible.  There is some laborious workaround where you can move your installation and somehow gain access to the EXE.

Those who bought MSFS from Steam have straightforward access to the EXE.

Go Microsoft!   Makes things constrained for your direct customers! 😄

This is now long outdated information.
Following the restructuring of the MSFS installation, the new location is
Your MSFS main folder\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content\FlightSimulator.exe
The current file size is 134 MB.

You are 100% incorrect, I'm afraid.

What do you mean by "Your MSFS main folder" ?

If you mean the Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.26.5.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe folder, there is no "Microsoft Flight Simulator" sub-folder within there.  Nada.

Here is my "MSFS main folder":-

4444444.png

....there is no Microsoft Flight Simulator\Content\FlightSimulator.exe in there.... and I don't believe there is for any MS Store customers.

You are talking about MSFS bought from the MS Store aren't you?   If so you're the first person I've ever heard claim that the Flightsimulator.exe is visible and accessible.

See post below, for the true location of the EXE, but it is inaccessible.

This is the actual location of the main EXE, but as you can see, the WindowsApps folder is not accessible.

...and no, you cannot get access by clicking "security tab".  It's a Windows protected folder.

Your information is incorrect @Reader   MS Store owners cannot access the flightsimulator.exe , without moving their installation to a new location, which is a risky endeavour.

There is an updated method of installation.
 Checking for Stripr Compatibility (parallel42.com)

That's good but not a huge amount of help for people who already have MSFS installed.   I've read of some issues with the "converting to the 'modern' installation that resulted in users having to install from scratch.

Still, next time I do need to reinstall, I will ensure I follow the modern method.

MS store buyer here, My flightsimulator.exe is located in C:\Games\Xbox\Microsoft Flight Simulator\content\flightsimulator.exe. It is exactly where I told the installer to put it.
I did not have to do anything "difficult" to get it there, just install MSFS via the Xbox app on the PC and when it asked where to install the files I selected this location.
I can add, change and delete things as I see fit in there.

Yes, there is a duplicate of these files under C:\Program Files\WIndowsApps but that's an exact duplicate of my main installed folder. When I make a change in either this duplicate or the original installation folder it is replicated almost instantly to the other.
