How many Base Stations are really needed?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve just bought a Varjo Aero and am wondering how many Base Station 2.0’s are actually needed for seated VR flying?  Is it ok just to have 1 straight in front if I wall mount it ?

Also what controller do you guys recommend ? Or can I get away without a controller ?

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x,  RTX4090, Varjo Aero, 32GB 3600MHz RAM , Samsung 980 Pro 1TB PCIe4.0,  980 1TB PCIe3.0, TUF B550M-PLUS (WIFI), Warthog HOTAS, Saitek PRO rudder pedals,  1440p Ultrawide, Track IR, TM Boeing yoke.

Assuming you are only going to be using the Aero for seated flying and you do NOT want to use VR contriollers for anything then one basestation will be enough.... If you do want to dance around your room in VR or use VR controllers for anything then you will need a 2nd basestation.

Looks like you have already got a HOTAS + Rudder so you shouldn't need anything else for your flight sim (VR controllers arn't any real use in flight sims)

... fogot to mention base station mounting... It doesn't matter that  much how it is mounted as long as it gets a clear view of your headset at all times (i.e. You monitor isn't blocking view). Also the basestation can be problematic if it is placed to close to you.... ideally you need a min gap of about 6 feet.

I use a Varjo with 1 base station, works fine for me.

I am using varjo with 1 BASE Station directly located at my desk in front of me, below my screen. Works superior and I do not have issues. Important is, only seated/limited standing usable. If you plan to turn around 180 degrees....then tracking will be lost, your head avoids visible connection between base and HMD.

But for flightsimming (non DCS where you have to look back maybe) it´s perfect.

I used 1 base station in front and above my monitor for ages.... I found sometime that when I am looking to the right and down to the pedestal (at rear of pedestal dialing in sqk code etc I would loose tracking. I purchased a 2nd base station and mounted to the right on a tripod. This fixed the problem.
