As I understand it the bulk of the Mu-2s problems came from the combination of a lot of power at a very affordable price which led to a lot of inexperienced owners in the US buying a plane they lacked the skills to properly handle when things went wrong.

In Europe where the Mu-2 seems to have required a type rating from the beginning and post 2006 in the US when the FAA brought in specialised training requirement (at or above the type rating level) the accident rate is seems to be the same or even lower than similar Turboprops.

Personally I love the plane in XP, it's a brilliant utility aircraft that has masses of personality and offers something quite different.

Ok, possibly tkyler’s MU2 is a different product for X-plane 11 and X-plane 12.

No, it's the same product, and from their Forum it should become available for XP12 next week:

Just point the installer to your x-plane 12 folder then the first time the plane loads it asks for your info. Worked for me. Live a little, if it doesn't work delete it.
