How is ProFlight 2000?

Recommended Posts

Guest Dave March

Paradise,$50 seems a little high for 7 year old software I would totally agree but you're not paying $50 dollars for ProFlight 2000! If you check the prices you will see you are actually paying $10 for ProFlight, which you don't have to do either if you still have your original copy as many users do, so the remaining $39.99 is for PFE. Personally I would have included ProFlight for nothing but it's not mine to give away. We have to pay a royalty/license fee for every copy of PFE Deluxe sold and we also have to pay additional bandwidth charges as PFE Deluxe weighs in at 190MB larger than PFE Standard.CheersDave March

GREAT NEWS Gerard!!!No surprise really, and I am glad to find out that the problem is ME.I obviously am leaving something out, doing something wrong, or just not seeing the obvious somewhere. Probably something very simple, but I cannot get "Commands:off" to turn on in the GC2 window thus getting it to recognize my voice.Did you have to do anything in the PfE setup with the exception of checking "use game commander"?In GsmeCommander, do you use the default "Flight Simulator 2000/FS2000 with ProFlight" command set or originate and use FSX and/or FS9 sets, or possibly edit/copy to a PFE command set?If you would humor me, please give a detailed step by step installation and setup of what you did with GameCommander up to the point of your first words in the Mic. This probably will be of help to somebody else too. Thanks so much for the reply. Your help is greatly appreciated.RTH

Yes, but even $40 seems a little high for 7 year old software ;) Because that's what you get in the end: an emulation of a 7 year old program. 10 or 15 dollar would seem more appropriate to me imho. But hey, we all got our different taste and needs, so... I'm happy for those who love PF2000 and can use it again! ;) And of course a lot of stuff has been added, that's true. Anyway, one of the reasons I won't buy it (now), is that, as far as I can see, the program won't see other aircraft up in the air. So that still leaves me very much alone in a great big world. It's the interaction with other planes that makes ATC necessary in the real world. What's the use of ATC if you are all alone out there...? I can find my way on my own too. ;)

I don't care if it is 70 years old. IMHO it is still one of the best programs ever originated for FS and I have missed it terribly. By today's standards, I think it is a bargin.I know that is what the program specifications imply, but I am afraid I don't know what, "the program won't see other aircraft up in the air" really means. I was sure I had seen them, so just took off from my home airport after obtaining clearance from PFE at KLWB which is pretty remote compared to many and the air was loaded with aircraft, both visable and scattered throughout. I have AIRadar, and it was filled with neighbor aircraft within a 40 mile radius. Maybe someone else can confirm this and shed some light as to exactly what the PFE limitation is. Unless I have just stumbled into a unique situation, it sure doesn't mean that there are no aircraft in the air with us as I have many. Could this simply apply to multi-player capability relative to communication with other aircraft? To each his own. I hope you find a new product that pleases you as much as this horse pleases me. Obviously from the posts, I am not alone.Respectfully:RTH

I didn't say PF is worse than FS ATC! ;) Just today I had to do a go-around thanks to the magnificent FSX ATC... But the main reason to get the emulator and PF (or any other ATC addon) is the fact that FS ATC isn't top notch. So it's a pity if PF still leave something to be desired, specially if it is one of the bigger problems FS gives us. Anyway, I've read that they are looking at this 'problem', which would be nice! I do get the impression that the devs are right on it and working on stuff to add, so... it might become better and better. ;)

True, but the point of buying an ATC expansion is to overcome the numerous limitations of the default "free" ATC ;-)When considerating wich one to buy, one will have to ponder the pros and cons of each program, be it PFE, RC or whatever. All of them lack certain features while enphasizes others. There
