We don't need ground textures just objects

Recommended Posts

I don't think we need LR to reinvent the wheel with ground textures as these can be generated from ortho4xp, we just need realistically placed objects to make XP12 great. Obviously this cannot be resolved with osm data alone so LR probably need some AI tool to create this. Does anyone have any idea how this could be achieved to help them out?? 😉

  1. Steal a billion Dollars.
  2. Buy the biggest computer you can find.
  3. License a good source for satellite photos.
  4. Hire two hundred nerds and tell them to rack their brains to come up with algorithms and programs that predictably, consistently and accurately extracts object footprint data from satellite photos and color corrects said satellite photos.
  5. Hire a thousand digital artists to create objects with acceptable visual variety that will be placed on said footprint data.
  6. Upload the finished scenery to servers and start streaming it to users.

Congratulations, you've invented MSFS2020.

It could be called SimHeaven X-World.

Simheaven uses OSM and Microsoft footprint buildings.

If their ist not enaugh for you, you be free to work yourself at OSM.

Please don't understand me wrong, Armin works alone at Simheaven with a little help of the community.

He has only the data from OSM and the footprints and he brings different bluildings to every region.

And its freeware.

What more do you want?

sorry i don't see better coverage, in fact less density for trees and objects. Example below is EGSS top is default bottom is X-world, maybe i've installed it wrong or something..

Check order in Scenery_Packs.ini?

Here is a screenshot over EGSS looking away from the airport.  I am using SimHeaven X-World Europe (Not using Global Forests).  You are certainly missing trees and buildings - did you run the batch file in the Forests directory to link foliage to XP-12?

Maybe LR should partner with ORBX for default scenery.

XP12 is gonna have the most realistic lighting, the most realistic weather and the most realistic flight operations, so once all the warts and bugs of the early release are solved, the only thing dragging it down is the current default scenery.

Well, look at the news today. I have said many times XP must support DLSS. It's a Must. Now it is more obvious than ever. Huge massive gains with DLSS 3.0!

This could take a while, as per Ben Supnik from LR:

Quote

Why don’t we use FSR2 or DLSS? Both of these upscalers require motion vectors as inputs from the rendering engine, something X-Plane does not provide. We may support them in the future, but adding motion vector generation is not trivial.

Now that's a surprise 😉
