Burning Man

September is Burning Man and Reno Air Race month so this flight will feature a visit to Stead and Black Rock City Airport.  Starting from South Lake Tahoe (KTVL) we head to Carson City (KCXP) then to Stead (KRTS) the site of the air races.  The next part of the route features a series of mostly dusty Nevada bush strips enroute to Buring Man and then a few more after. We finish at Cedarville (O95) – because I don’t think we’ve ever been there.

The route is 234nm long with 10 landings. Any GA aircraft capable of 150knt cruise should be fine.  I will be in the Highland Air Caravan which will surprise no one.  Fly what you like.

By all accounts, Burning Man can be spectacular at night. (The lovely MFS scenery has an impressive night scene.) In “real” life, the 2022 event had some terrific work by 1,000 drones at night. You might enjoy a couple of videos from early this month here and here.

Here's a video of the Burning Man “airport” that is constructed and operated each year as a “gift” by volunteers.

Remember, this flight is clothing optional.
