Tromsø (ENTC) Revisited in a Falcon 50... (Part I) ...

Featured Replies

I had recently posted an account of a (DC-9) flight, in Norway, from (ENGM) Oslo to (ENTC) Tromsø (if you wish, please see my earlier SAS DC-9 post). Norway is one of those fascinating Scandinavian countries (on the top of the list of countries for me (yet) to visit, at least per the preference of my better half...🙂...we'll see...). The DC-9, I'd shown there in that post, and also shown, here, as shot #1 below, had the Tri-Flag (underbelly) Striped livery that includes the flag colors of the 3 countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark), symbolically represented on the a/c, in this same order, making up the (composite) (old) SAS Airlines identity. In that livery, Norway flag's "red with a navy-blue Scandinavian cross fimbriated in white" colors appear in the middle of the pattern.

Norway is the northernmost of the Nordic countries. The country spans from latitude 57° North all the way up to 81° North. Now, the Arctic Circle is the line of latitude that circles the globe at approximately 66°33′ North. It marks the southern limit of the area within which, curiously, for one day or more each year, the Sun simply does not set...!! In fact, further interestingly, from late May to late July, in areas north of the Arctic Circle, the sun never completely descends beneath the horizon (hence Norway is called the "Land of the Midnight Sun").

Anyway, picking up a bit from my (previous) SAS DC-9 post, and prompted by the reminiscence of a member there...🙂...who had commented, in my post, about an actual visit to Tromsø, I thought, the least I could do, for now, is gather up some (add-on) scenery for Tromsø, pay another (virtual) visit to the Tromsø Airport (ENTC) and explore it some more....

I learned today that there are many tall (and spectacular) mountains within the Tromsø municipality, making the approach into (and departures from) Tromsø Airport (ENTC), frankly, quite dangerous, as I also separately found out, via my Trusty Garmin GTN 750 Trainer, in a simulation of my intended simulation for this post...so-to-speak... (see the GTN 750 images, in my Part II). For my flight, here, with the Falcon 50, I've lifted off Rwy 18 (southward), flew ~15 nms straight out in Rwy heading, keeping 3,000 ft altitude, then made a precarious (left banking) U-Turn, over the mountains (see the images, below, viewed from the cockpit of my Falcon 50), and finally lined up heading north, to capture the ILS signals for Rwy 36. The touchdown and landing were normal and uneventful, as I (manually) controlled the speed of the Falcon 50, to stay steady on the Glidepath, all the way to the Rwy threshold... (see landing shots, below).

Regarding a/c, I've chosen to fly, for this flight, the (Dassault) Falcon 50 in the US Air Force livery (Reg. 80404), on a special mission with a secret objective I cannot reveal...🙂...BTW, just for comparison, and coincidentally, the distance e.g., from my hometown airport O'Hare (KORD) to Tromsø Airport (ENTC) comes up as ~3,400 nm, whereas the (maximum) range of the Falcon 50 is ~3,500 nms, just barely long enough for a non-stop flight. This Falcon 50 is a nice a/c, which I thought of flying, today, after a very long time.

Hope you enjoy this collection of pictures from my flight, here, and also, those of Tromsø Airport and its vicinity, in my Part II...!

Thanks for viewing...!
