October 10, 20223 yr I have been very busy with work, family and other "stuff" so I haven't been flying for the better part of a year, except for a few brief occasions. I decided to update everything and see where things are with MSFS the past few days. Overall I think a lot of progress has been made, both with the sim and the add-ons that are available for it. First, the environment looks much better. The clouds, lighting, trees, grass, ground textures...it all looks much better to my eyes. It is a very believable world to fly in now. I also tested out DX12 and this too has brought a very nice performance bump. On the add-on side traffic is a big step up thanks to FSLTL. It adds so much to the immersion seeing airports and the skies full of planes that are actually at that airport at that time, and flying those routes. My system seems to be handling the load well, too. I also recently purchased the Black Square Caravan add-on, which makes one of my favorite planes very enjoyable to fly now. It is pretty close to study sim level. So overall, I see a ton of progress in a lot of key areas. On the not so good side, I am getting kicked offline a lot, which I don't remember experiencing in the past. This is a real issue, so I hope MSFS and Asobo figure this out quickly. I am also getting warning that my GPU is overloaded, which it is not. And the sharpness of the gauges and writing in the cockpit seem pretty soft, so a sharpening in that area would be really welcomed. The flightdeck just isn't really "HD" to me. But all in all there isn't a whole lot to complain about, and I am really enjoying this sim. I think I said many months ago that MSFS needed about a year more to mature, and it looks like it really did. I've got to hand it to MS and Asobo as well. They have done great work, and MSFS is a landmark achievement. MSFS is really an impressive piece of software. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

Jettison DX12 for now. It comes with significant tradeoffs. DX12 for MSFS holds great promise, as does DLSS, but both need work in MSFS and my experience is more enjoyable as I fly MSFS while staying on the sidelines of those two initiatives. I have run it with DX11 and 12, and 12 just runs a lot better on my system. Yes DX11 is a bit sharper but the hit to FPS is just more than I am willing to sacrifice. I am sure it will get better and better. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

In terms of DX12, I don’t experience any drawbacks but as always YMMV. DLSS is less sharp vs TAA and causes ”ghosting” on glass cockpits. I don’t think DX12 influences visual appearance though. If you want to keep enjoying MSFS, don’t read any of the threads on weather, wind, gusts, turbulence or clouds 😉 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

October 10, 20223 yr Author BTW, I locked frames at 30 and this sim looks amazing, at it is smooth. Even got my TrackIR working, and that is really solid too. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 96GB DDR5 | 4K G-Sync | Win11 Pro

They said they will try to add a mask for the glass panel electronic instruments, so that DLSS isn't used on them, when you are running DLSS. But who knows when they will be able to do this change. Hopefully they figure it out no later than SU 12. i5-12400, RTX 3060 Ti, 32 GB RAM
October 11, 20223 yr Yeah, besides the longer flight FPS drops that some of us encounter I have been really enjoying it. 7800+4090+64ram Just Flight RJ, 146 and F28, Piper Arrows ---A2A Aerostar and Comanche---Black Square Starship, Duke(s), TBM, Bonanza/BaronV2, KingAir---FSReborn FSR500---COWS Da42---FX P180, HJet & VJet---FlySimWare Chancellor and LearJet---FlightSimStudio EMB175 &P2006T---Fenix 320---PMDG DC6, 737(700+900), 777---C22J---Milviz Cessna 310 & Porter---SimWorksStudios Kodiak, PC12, Zenith & RV14---BigRadials Goose---IndiaFoxEcho MB3339+F35.
