Microsoft Says Cloud Gaming is Immature

"After years of touting cloud gaming, Microsoft presented a much less optimistic outlook on the nascent technology this week. The company called cloud gaming “immature” and “unproven” in a dense, tidbit-rich filing as part of its latest effort to push through a $68.7 billion deal to acquire video game maker Activision Blizzard, pending regulatory approval.

“Today cloud gaming remains in its infancy and unproven as a consumer proposition,” Microsoft wrote in a Tuesday response to the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), adding that it didn’t expect the situation to improve in the next few years. The company doesn’t foresee cloud gaming will replace consoles or PC, and called it “a new and immature technology.”

Could this be due to Netflix now coming in with already massive streaming service, MS tried to take on the Mobile market some years ago and failed then pulled the plug.

As a serious point, there's an awful lot of money being thrown at cloud gaming.
Why, even though technically, the comments are correct? Because the big players in the gaming sector know that consoles are an expensive capital outlay for consumers. Remove that cost and there's more disposable money that customers can spend on game subscriptions instead.

Playing down the impact of a company's actions is typical of a company seeking to assuage regulator fears.
Saying that they're spending lots of money on the nascent tech that is cloud gaming, in order to catch up with Sony and Nintendo, is hopefully discounted as nonsense by the CMA. More akin to '"Look over here", while I distract you from what I'm really trying to do.'

The problem is even game consoles may be obsolete in the future with smart TVs now sporting the GamePass APP installed the same as Netflix.

Yes, but cloud gaming is also getting big on phones and tablets as well.
