Why is anyone worried if the next LM product (whether it is P3Dv6 or another name entirely) is not backwards compatible with older P3D addons?

Means those of us who crossed to the Dark Side™ have an anchor point for returning to LM's franchise. If at least some of my P3Dv5 add-ons were made compatible, I would buy P3Dv6/new sim, since I wouldn't be starting entirely from scratch.
Otherwise, there has to be a highly compelling/groundbreaking reason to draw simmers into the new LM product and convince third party developers it's financially worth their while to develop for another platform.

[...] allows automatic streaming of Microsoft Bing’s map data, OpenStreetMap (OSM) Building, and photogrammetry data sets supplied by the Cesium for Unreal plugin.

A  demo called "Project Anywhere" was built on these capabilites. It's an Unreal Engine proof-of-concept created jointly by Cesium, Epic Games, your friends at Microsoft, and NVIDIA. Project Anywhere gives you real-time access to the 3D Tiles visuals and data of the entire world from Cesium.

"Project Anywhere’s flight tracker mode enables the user to track all commercial air traffic in real-time"

Looks similar to what we have now with photogrammetry in MSFS, including the very blocky trees and slightly melted-look buildings.
Nonetheless, it's good to see an alternative to Asobo/MS in the works. Depending on what MS' real goal is with a digital world, this could be the stick that keeps metaphorically prodding MS in the back to improve their offering.

Or just have never worked with a marketing department before

Totally off topic here, but I feel compelled to know - what does your animated profile picture represent?

Every time I see it I wonder what the heck it means.

Thanks.

Hah, it's Jeff Smisek, former CEO of United Airlines. It's a clip from the safety video right after the merger where he says "You're going to see a number of changes in the months ahead, and I think you'll like them"

Spoiler: We did not like the changes 😤
