US cities and airports: MSFS 4090 performance

Featured Replies

Just did a series of short flights in the freeware Vertigo over several US cities and airports to test the 4090. It's almost unreal to have this sort of performance in MSFS. In terms of motion, most of the time it's surprisingly smooth, with the occasional stutter here and there. Ideally a video would be much better but there are many challenges involved without an external capture card. Image distortions can sometimes be noticeable at lower fps.

As main thread limitation is still a thing, these numbers will change when e.g. landing at iniBuild's KLAX in the CPU-heavy Fenix A320.

Settings: SU11 beta, 4K, DX12, TAA, frame generation = on, ultra preset (TLOD 200), real weather, real time, FSLTL injector (settings in last screenshot).

78 at Orbx KBUR?  Wow!  That place kills my fps....that scenery is totally unoptimized or something.  It's awful on my rig.

Nice pics.

That looks amazing. Have you tried different DLSS settings? Do you see a significant difference in quality, DLSS vs. native 4K with TAA?

With DLSS you should get even more fps, but perhaps not worth it if image quality suffers.

Yes I was amazed to see this as well.

DLSS in quality mode is not that bad as the image is rendered in 1440p upscaled to 4K. DLSS performance (1080p=>4K) is too blurry on my 4K screen. It might not look too bad on a 1440p display though. With all the DLSS modes there’s the issue of speed tape ghosting in glass cockpits. TAA offers by far the best image quality without a significant fps loss.

Orbx updated their KBUR a few months ago, but I haven't tried loading there after the update myself. It used to tank my FPS down to 15-20 or so.

Edit:  The update was through Orbx Central, I think they replaced the whole airport.
