Rolls-Royce Dart and River Dart (Contd.) ...Part 2...

Featured Replies

[I continue on, here, from my Part 1, with the rest of my flight...]

After leaving the moor, River Dart flows southeast across the delightful English countryside, of rolling hills, picturesque meadows, and quaint villages...🙂...all observations would be certainly true in RW, but I'm speaking here (merely) from my (virtual) flight experience (see images, below). Then, finally, in Dartmouth, past the old Dartmouth Castle, the river meets the sea (English Channel). In my shots below (e.g., shot #5), you will spot the river's estuary and its mouth widening in eager anticipation of meeting the sea (a magical and energetic moment for any river, whether it has travelled 50 miles or 500 miles).

Since Dartmouth does not have an airport, I've inserted its LAT/LONG into my SimBrief FlightPlan for navigation to it. So, the 2nd leg (the base of the triangle) of my Route MAP shown in Part 1, roughly tracks the path of the River Dart from its origin to the sea, and also forming part of my route in the sky. Then from Dartmouth, I have tracked and flown (up north) back to Exeter Airport (EGTE), and you will see there yet another twin turboprop, the NAMC YS-11 (you may recall it from my previous ANA posts), in the color of an airline, that just happened to appeal to me today, Asian Spirit, which was a LCC airline, once operating in the Philippines. So, the set of landing pictures, below, belong to the (please excuse) out-of-place Asian Spirit airline and the YS-11 twin turboprop...Japan's only post-war (mass) production airliner...!

I also invite you to view this (nice) 3m:29s video, of a Fokker F27, and hear the unmistakable "high pitched whine" of the Dart engines, from landing all the way to shutdown of the engines. Please search for, "Fokker F-27 Friendship landing with sound of Rolls Royce Dart engines"...

Thanks for your interest...! Good flying...!

My introduction to spotting, watching BEA and Aer Lingus Viscounts at EGBB Birmingham, England. My first-ever flight was on BEA G-APEX, Heathrow to Birmingham, 1964.

Rob Jones.

Really enjoyed this two-parter. Guess I just have a soft spot for turboprops.

Great shots again! 😉
