November 15, 20223 yr My current system consists of 4770K @4.5 GHz 16 GB 2200 MHz RAM and a NVIDIA 2700 Super which I use with a HP Reverb G2 VR headset. Also have a 27" 2560*1440 monitor. I intend to upgrade that to (mainly because of my flightsims MSFS DC3 P3D5 XP) 5800X3D 32 GB RAM + a new video card Finding a good alternative for the video card is very difficult. First the new 4090 and 4080 is out of question because of the high prices. So I have been looking at 3080 and 3090 and here the problem is also prices. Actually where I live I have seen raised prices on these two outgoing cards. And I assume I can't expect them to be available for any longer time. A shop hinted about the year out. After that a 4070 would be considered. But I fear even that is going to be very expensive. You could ask how is the prices going to change in the future ? What is best to do here ?
November 15, 20223 yr I'd wait until the new AMD cards come out and see what the benchmarks are. I'm in the same boat. Well I'm not using VR (But I'd like to). 1080 Ti here at 1440P. The 40xx cards are gone and the pricing is just too rediculous to me. I'm going to either wait another year or go for a quality 3070 Ti. I have looked at AMD but how good are the drivers for MSFS? Do we still need Nvidia? November 16, 20223 yr Ryan -- AMD's drivers have significantly improved from earlier days. Initially I did rule out AMD card maybe because I am unfamiliar with them and have only seen NVIDIA recommended in forums. But I have discovered that for the price of a 3080 10Gb I could have a 6900XT 16 GB which seem close to 3090 in performance. Really makes sense to consider that. A minor problem might be that I know a lot of recommended configuration settings for NVIDIA.

November 17, 20223 yr $899 MSRP for the 7900xt and $999 for the 7900xtx. The power consumption and connectors are the same as the 6950xt which has no melting issues and doesn't use the same connectors as the 40xx series. The other thing you should consider is that if you pair your current CPU with say a 3080 or 3090 you are going to be severely CPU bottlenecked and the results could be unfavorable leaving you very disappointed. To get the best out of any modern Nvidia or AMD card you need to have a CPU that is well matched. It really is important to have a balanced system. It should pair nicely with the 5800X3D from what I have read. I have a 3090 with a 12700K and in the Fenix or PMDG I can easily get consistent 50fps with mainly ultra settings and a couple turned down one notch. Less demanding aircraft can easily achieve 60fps. It is nice having the extra VRAM as well Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |

I had 3090 for around 1200$ now they are up close to 2000$. A 3080 12 GB was at 1000$ and then suddenly they raised the price of this non stocked card by 25%. Now I see 6900XT around 1000$ and 6950XT around 1200$ which I think make them worthy of consideration. Also such an expensive component as a graphics card I don't feel comfortable to buy second hand
