The 1990s are alive and well in MSFS

It's 1996 again in MSFS, so let's do some proper flying! Today we're flying as Thai 600 from Don Mueang airport in Bangkok to Hong Kong Kai Tak on HS-TIC, a beautiful Thai Airways A310-300. Boarding is currently underway and we're preparing for departure.

It's just past 10:00am local time as we push back taxi to 3L for departure. We've got a full load of passengers but a light load of fuel for this 2:45 hop across the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea.

After a short taxi we're in the air:

As we reach our cruising altitude over eastern Thailand, we get a great view of the Thai countryside.

And about an hour into the flight, we cross the Mekong river into Laotian airspace

And as quickly as we entered, we're already across into Vietnam and over the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin.

Soon after, we're over Hainan

Another quick jaunt across the South China Sea and we're beginning our descent into Hong Kong:

A hard left turn and we're entering the approach over Cheung Chau VOR, as those on the right side of the plane are treated to some amazing views of Hong Kong Island, with Kowloon and Kai Tak behind:

As we continue our approach, we descend down to 4,500 and turn to 045° to intercept the IGS down to the checkerboard:

And Touchdown!

After a short taxi, we're at the gate.

All in all, FS98 looks a lot better than I remember. Definitely worth the upgrade, and the frames are surprisingly good on my 180mhz Pentium and 3dfx Voodoo. That said, you'll definitely need the Voodoo if you want reasonable performance 😉

Hope you enjoyed!

That is great! I enjoyed your narrative. Are you joking about FS98? 😄

I guess it's hard to see in the last screenshot, but Gaya put a big billboard for FS98 into the scenery 😄

Nice flight with pleasing narrative details. Glad I was along for the ride!
