December 6, 20223 yr Last week I took my son's family to Peterson Space Force Base, where they have a small indoor museum and a bunch of outdoor displays, mostly centered on air defense over the USAF's history. One of the outside aircraft displays there is an EC-121, which is the military radar surveillance version of the Constellation (replaced in 1978 by the E-3 AWACS). I had seen it there before, and thought it was a hollow shell, as most outdoor static displays are. To my surprise, the docent unlocked the door and gave us a nice tour of the Connie which, as it turns out, is completely preserved inside including the flight deck, all the radar and commo operators' stations, etc. It really gave me a new appreciation for the old graceful bird as well as its complexity. If you like lots of dials and switches, this is the airplane for you! They have a connie inside there also along with lots of others like the space shuttle. Enjoyable for sure.
