Boing 247d crosswind limit?

Featured Replies

Just wonder how much crosswind this plane can handle? In 25knots I had no rudder authority and was impossible to takeoff.

In F Robert Van Der Linden's book " The First Modern Airliner " I can't find any reference to a Crosswind Limit.

In the design calculations for strength it was assumed a maximum gust speed of 30 feet per second that's about 17 knots.

Not sure how relevant that is.

I think the crosswind take off limit for a B17 was around 12 knots.

So this plane is the same?

I should think it was slightly less.

Ok, that explains my problems. Was thinking the FM was wrong. Thanks for the replys. 🙂

It is a tail dragger so crosswind capability will never be great. Many airports at the time were called "xxx Field" because they were exactly that, a field, and you could always land into the wind.

In the case of the Staggerwing for example, the POH for some models simply states do not take-off or land with a crosswind (other variants of Staggerwing allowed 10 mph, in other words almost nothing).

Dont want to start another thread, but have one more issue with this plane.

I just got a buttkicker, im using hapticonnect and all other aircrafts feels fine, but this B247 doesnt give any feedback. I dont get much engine vibrations, rolling down the runway doesnt give any feedback. Pretty much only feedback i get is touch down and raising/lowering landing gear.. Anyone else?

even with window open ?

Yeah tried it but it made no difference with window open. But today somehow I get more effect that didnt work before. But the engine rumble effect in this plane I dont really like it. Also the Hapticonnect doesnt let me make profiles for different planes, which is very annoying to adjust everytime I switch planes.

Maybe I have to look into simshaker? Tried to buy the sound module though, but the russian sanctions make it a bit difficult.

Bit of a bouncy one was it?😁

?    What are you trying to say here:p?

Ah, I get it now, misspelled Boeing:p

Anyway, sorted out my buttkicker issue with this plane, my chair had some loose parts I had to tighten:p. I also tried simshaker but I prefer the effect from hapticonnect. So I wrote down a spreedshet for the different plane settings:p, hope they add some profile system to the software which would make things more easy.

Thanks all for the knowledge, learned things I didnt know about taildraggers:)
