It's the Humidity!

Featured Replies

Seeing as how I live in South Florida, humidity is something I am well acquainted with. 🙂 However, I did not realize until today that the Humidity slider in the Weather section really affects the look of the world.

I have always been unhappy with just how BRIGHT the scenes out of the cockpit are sometimes, and while this effect is still overdone, in my opinion, I had no idea that one of the major culprits of my world being so darn bright sometimes was weather themes that have high humidity in them. I have found that turning down the Humidity in a weather preset I am using is often the solution to getting just the right look I am happy with.

I have found that any Humidity setting higher than 3.5 to 4 just doesn't look natural to me and takes away from the visuals.

Here are the comparison shots I took today to illustrate my point. These were all taken one after the other, with the sun JUST above the top of the screenshot, facing southwest at about 2pm, using the High Level Clouds preset.

My apologies if you already know about this, but I did not, and it was a bit of an "a-ha!" moment for me to try and fix some of the overly bright graphics I have always dealt with.

Lack of humidity / aerosol density in the atmosphere is a huge missing piece of the puzzle for me in Live Weather. Metar-reported haze is rendered very well (imho), but it's always just a bubble around bigger airports and most of the world is missing it.

My worry is that it's something either unfeasible to fix, or the devs think it's not big enough of a need to take the time to do it. I don't even know if Meteoblue have it as a dataset in their service to MS.

Anyone know if the nuclear bomb effect is planned on being fixed?

I'm enjoying the more realistic colors in SU14; sadly, the way the sim deals with high humidity doesn't seem to have changed.

The humidity slider is what it is and to me as a RW pilot it is not that unatural really.  I too have noticed that the terrain colours look a lot better since SU14 and it's more than just the effects of the aerosols and the lighting.

1 looks unnatural to me as it is too sharp on the horizon.  Somewhere between 2 to 3 looks more like what I see with an average amount of humidity (if there is such a thing).

Although the live weather setting doesn't always have the best humidity setting, the Humidity 1 setting in your first picture makes it look like FSX, so it is just a case of setting the balance I suppose.

I use user defined weather a lot because of this and a few other issues, as the live weather isn't always good enough to fly where I want to fly on a lot of occasions.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

I guess a lot depends on individual systems, monitors and graphics settings I suppose Bob.0 looks a bit  silly, but I don't find a problem with 1, 2 or 3. Not far away from you here in Bristol and I too find myself having to use user defined a lot of the time for the same reason.  We are not blessed with the best of weather in the UK especially during winter months.

The jet jockeys don't care about the weather quite as much as we GA pilots who don't like being thrown around too much by high winds or trying to enjoy the scenery in poor visibility.

Yes, this is exactly it!   There are all types in MSFS.  There is no "one size fits all", although some people talk like that from their own selfish perspective at times.
