March 6, 20233 yr Greetings, Never had this happen before. I just tried starting MSFS by clicking my desktop icon and got a message that stated App can't open. Does anyone have an idea what the heck this message means. Last time I ran the program was last Friday morning and everything worked perfectly. Thank you, Chuck B.
March 7, 20233 yr Run the following commands in Powershell (admin rights)… Go through each of the following steps one at a time. Copy each line, one at a time , paste it into the Dos window (crtl + V) and press return and it will then run. Wait until each runs and finishes before you move on to the next one. When you are completely finished, Restart your computer and then try to see in MS2020 will start and run properly Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /checkhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth sfc /scannow Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup RESTART your computer as the last step. Then go for a test flight. March 9, 20233 yr Author udidwht, Thanks for responding. I am really surprised that you were the only one to respond. I cant possibly be the only one who experienced this error on this forum. Anyway, before posting here I searched the web and there were a number of possible solutions to resolve the problem. One I did not see is the one you posted. I tried them all to no avail. What finally worked was going to the gaming services app. I tried repair with no luck. The only thing left was the reset option. I was very reluctant to do that but, in the end I said what the heck and clicked the button. After a lengthy download the error went away and the program loaded as it should with not further issues. Not sure how I how the reset would affect the files, everything seems normal but I lost everything in my community folder. I am now in the process of restoring that. I did not get your post until after I was successful in getting rid of that error message. through trial and error on my own. I greatly appreciate your response and hopefully this post will help some who experiences the same error message in the future. Once again, thank you for taking the time to try and help me.
March 25, 20233 yr Yeah I'm in this hole now and in the MS Store download section both the Xbox App and Gaming Services are stuck at "Pending". This whole process of going through the store and Xbox services etc is such a pain in the a**e. March 25, 20233 yr oddd, whilst I'm sure its not related I literally just had a similar issue tonight with the Steam version. Been working fine since early in the week when I did a fresh install on my new build. Tonight, I double click the desktop item, I get the flash of the initial black loading screen and the it crashes. Nothing has changed on my setup.... Odd.. Kael Oswald 9950X3D/ 64GB DDR5 6200 @ CL30 / Custom Water Loop / RTX 5090 / 3 x 48" LG C4 OLEDs
March 26, 20233 yr It hasn't happened in a while but in early days (1 yr. after the launch) I used to get this too. I got fed up with that and just deleted the desktop shortcut. I find it's just as easy to launch MSFS from the start menu. I seem to remember reading some MS guidance that you shouldn't do that, it should always be via the Xbox app, but I've never had a single problem doing it from the start menu. When there's an update available I start with Xbox.
